Lovely, sunny, single level living 3 bdr, 1 ba cottage in prime location of Woods Hole on Mill Pond. The cottage has banks of windows that look out onto Mill pond salt marsh where there is an array of sea birds and wildlife. Sleeps 5 in the bedrooms and has an extra queen futon in the living room that sleeps 2 more. One story living with laundry in the basement. Steps to the beach (2 min walk) and a few blocks to Marine Biological Labs and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, aquarium, village center and local artisan shopping with over 7 restaurants and cafes! The "ballpark" is another short walk with public tennis courts, baseball diamond and a well equipped playground.
Guest Access: This cottage is furnished and equipped with washer/dryer, beach chairs, beach towels, games, one ocean kayak, grill, air conditioner in main room, and small deck off the front. There is no dishwasher. There is parking in front of the driveway with a guest parking pass that must hang from the rear view mirror. (The driveway is being re-graveled)
Interaction with Guests: Will be greeted at the house and briefly walked through the premises and will be provided with information about local attractions, natural environment, art, food and local culture.
The Neighborhood: Quiet street in the Village of Woods Hole. This is an established summer community of friendly locals. People usually walk into town, so not a lot of traffic. Roll out of bed and take a short 2 min walk to the beach, 3 minute walk to the Marine Biological Labs, and 10 min to village center (the long way). Boat to Martha's Vinyard takes 1 hour and is conveniently on the edge of village center.
Getting around: Everything you need is within walking distance including the ferry to Martha's Vinyard, however, you may want to tour the many attractions of Cape Cod or leave the quiet village of Woods Hole for the bustling streets of Falmouth that may involve a little driving.
Tour the village and ride along the 16 mile beautiful "Shining Sea" bike path to Falmouth. Bike rentals are available in Falmouth along the path.
Other Things to Note: This property boasts being the Cornelia Clapp cottage. It was built 1920 by Clapp who was one of the first researchers at the Marine Biological Lab's in Woods Hole and a prominent zoologist of her time. A tribute to her research and contribution to zoology can be found in the cottage fireplace where Clapp cast in stone the illustrious Opsanus Tau - the oyster toadfish :) that continues to provide information to researchers for the study of balance, muscle functions, hearings and diabetes.
House Rules: Take good care of the cottage like it's your own. Sorry we do not allow pets or smoking in the house! Strict rule against smoking and pets as there are family members with severe allergies.
