A really special place to stay, set in the tranquil scenery of the stunning Sierra de Montanchez in Extremadura. It is surrounded by its own grounds, 1 hectare of meadow within stone walls with private entrance and parking. In the middle of the meadow there is an ancient copse of shady holm oaks, perfect for lazing in the hammock. Lovely views to the olive groves and up to the peaks of the mountain. A path leads to the lovely pool set into the sierra scenery. The barn is very spacious with double height roof and bedroom on 1st floor. The sitting room is big with doors leading to long covered terrace, perfect for dining and lazing on the antique Indian bed. The kitchen is well equipped with lots of nice utensils and plates to make your meals special. The bathroom has a big shower area.
The whole barn is decorated carefully with a mixture of antiques, classic modern and ethnic furnishings. Lots of books, cds and dvds for entertainment.
The atmosphere is very peaceful, it's a wonderful place for observing nature, especially the bird life which is prolific on the finca with many interesting species such as azure winged magpies, hoopoes and birds of prey, there is an eagle owl nesting in the high peaks.
Walking is a great pleasure straight into the sierra on wonderful ancient paths, up to Montanchez with its Moorish castle or to the gorge of watermills in Arroyomolinos. Montanchez is famous for jamon, air dried ham, very delicious and can be sampled in the many tapas bars on the plaza, there are also some good restaurants with pleasant gardens for eating outside. It is just 30 minutes by car to three UNESCO world heritage towns, Caceres, Merida and Trujillo, all very atmospheric with gorgeous architecture, lively bars and restaurants and interesting shops. Within an hour of the finca there are so many wonderful things to see and do,lovely old towns, stunning countryside, lakes, rivers and mountains, please see the blog for suggestions.

"Beautiful, unspoilt, tranquil place with interesting trips for sightseeing"
We liked this place so much we came back for a second year. The property is secluded and located in beautiful countryside. The self catering accommodation at the Barn is very confortable, tastefully decorated, stylish and spacious. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and discreetly nearby for any needs. There are lovely views over the Sierra from the property and lots of opportunities for walking and bird watching. The nearby village is small but with handy shops including those selling local produce like jamon iberico, a weekly market and a small supermarket/grocery store.
We stayed over christmas and new year and enjoyed the peace and tranquility, the sunshine and the chance for scenic walks and birdwatching. We also enjoyed driving to the nearby towns of Caceres, Trujillo, and Merida each with their own interesting histories. We hope to visit again soon and have recommended the location and accommodation to friends and family.
