Sunset Island Apartment
£370–£590 / week
About the home
Our apartment is the ideal base to explore Langkawi, or simply to relax and enjoy the wonderful climate. Compared to similar standard hotel accommodation on the island, our rental rates are very reasonable, and we will be happy to help you suggest where you can hire a car/scooter or book excursions at the least cost to yourselves. We will also help you plan your itinerary, to enable you to make the most of your time on the island.
Langkawi is a nature lovers paradise. Being assigned 'World Geopark' status by Unesco in 2007, the island provides a vast array of opportunities to experience natural wildlife in the raw. From acres of rain forest, to miles of unspoilt (and uncrowded) beaches, the island really is fascinating to explore, and readily accessible. The road system is well maintained, car hire is cheap, and petrol a fraction of the price than in Western Europe (1.90 RM/litre). There really is no excuse to not getting out and about.
Containing all the modern amenities you would expect in a holiday apartment, all towels and bedding are also included in the rental charge. There is a Panasonic flat screen TV, and sound system that will plug into your MP3 player. There is also small selection of DVD's you are welcome to use.
However, a few drinks on the balcony is usually a better way to round off the day than watching the TV !
The main bedroom has an Emperor sized bed, with en suite shower room/lavatory. The second bedroom has two single beds, with adjoining bathroom facilities. There is a fully kitted out kitchen, but as the food is so inexpensive in Langkawi, it has not seen much action! The lounge has a leather reclining sofa and chair, whilst the dining area has a table and seating for six people. Please note this is strictly a non-smoking apartment - smoking is allowed on the balcony however.
The island enjoys duty free status, and whilst this makes alcohol cheap, thankfully there is no excessive behaviour on the island or within the complex.
Overall Langkawi makes an excellent holiday if you like nature, beaches, great food, exploring, swimming and generally taking things easy. Its also great value to eat and drink there. Its probably not so good though if you are looking for night clubbing or mega shopping, and probably Penang or Thailand would be a better place to visit if you are looking for these activities.
Langkawi has a growing ex-pat community as Malaysia is becoming a popular retirement destination. If you are thinking of retiring there, then our apartment offers you an ideal way of dipping your toe in the water, and seeing if island life is for you. Alternatively, its a great place for couples and families who want to enjoy unspoilt nature.

The Langkawi Island region

Within Langkawi there are loads of places to visit, and things to do - here are a few suggestions:
1) Tour the island - hire a car or a scooter and just drive round the island.
2) Cable Car - its a long way up with an aerial walkway once you get there. Stunning views. Do not miss - unless you hate heights !
3) Snorkelling or diving - there are several accredited diving operators who offer day trips.
4) Kuah Jetty / Legenda Square/Eagle Park - all situated next to each other. Eagle Park is the site of the huge 12m high white eagle which is the emblem of Langkawi. Lagenda Park is a walking history book of the islands myths and legends. Kuah Jetty provides boat links to Thailand and Malaysia, as well as offering some comfort for shopaholics.
5) Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls - a steep (really steep!) climb to these waterfalls - but a beautiful scene once you get there.
6) Gunung Raya - the islands highest mountain - you can drive to the top and get a lift to the top of a viewing tower where the panorama is stunning. One for clear days only.
7) Golf courses - there are 3 great courses on the island.
8) Snake Sanctuary - a fascinating insight into the world of snakes.
9) Crocodile Farm - as the name suggests - but make sure you see the daily shows - you will then understand the meaning the meaning of the word 'bravery' ( or 'madness' perhaps?)
10) Sunsets - watching the stunning sunsets from the mid west of the island is memorable - even the locals bring their families to the coast to watch the sunsets.
11) Night markets - there is one every night of the week - Wednesday and Saturday in Kuah. Lots of colour, food and smells of cooking.
12) Mangrove Tour - another one you should not miss - covers most of the natural highlights of Langkawi.
13) Underwater World - A pretty good aquarium, complete with penguins in authentic snow setting.
The Kuah area
Kuah is pretty much everything you would expect of a large town with several banks, many shops, and home to most of the few ATMs on the island. It has a huge variety of different places to eat, covering most of the ethnic Asian types. It also has several large duty free stores, selling liquor, tobacco and chocolate at duty free prices.
The climate provides guaranteed warmth all year round, with the rainy season providing a few hours rain a day before succumbing to the sunshine again. Temperatures are generally between 28C to 33C during the day. The islanders are very friendly, and as tourism is well developed on the island, they are used to being asked for help with directions!

There are very few direct flights to Langkawi Island. Most flights arrive from Kuala Lumpur, with a few from Penang, Singapore and Finland. Most of the big brand airlines fly into Kuala Lumpur, but Air Asia also offer a budget airline service from Australia. Their aircraft, prices and service are excellent, but obviously do not offer the frills that the mainline carriers provide. From the UK, I can also recommend Malaysian Airlines who have never let me down.
The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi takes around an hour. Yet again both Air Asia and Malaysian Airlines provide a great service with numerous flights a day.
From Langkawi airport, the apartment is a 20 minute journey by taxi, which will cost 25 RM. The price is fixed, as are many of the rates for popular taxi routes on the island.

This is an excellent place to stay. If you want to have a sandy beach within a minute's walk, it's not the place for you. However, if you want a nice, clean, comfortable condo, conveniently located in a great neighborhood with an excellent pool, this is the place. It is a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute drive/taxi from fantastic, inexpensive food and shopping in downtown Kuah. Taxis are easy to call, scooters are easy to rent, and there's even a carport if you want to rent a car. This place is a great value, with plenty of room for a family of four. It's also very peaceful. I would stay here again, especially if the property owner will install wi-fi. He said that he would consider it when I brought it up. Even without wi-fi, it's awesome, but it will be even better with it. There is only a microwave and a toaster in the kitchen. If you want to cook, you need to go through the hassle of setting up the stovetop and propane tank outside the front door. Don't bother because it is so cheap to eat out at good, or even great, restaurants. Seriously, going to the trouble of cooking is probably more expensive than eating locally on this island. The kitchen is great for leftovers and breakfast/snacks/happy hour. What more do you need? Rent it! |

We opted to stay away from the main Kuah town and to stay away from resorts because of how far they were from the main shops. We chose to stay in Chogm Villa owned by Stefan. We found a few other people who were renting in the complex BUT he was most prompt and very punctual in replying. Location: In a complex of up and down 2 bed villas. His was upstairs. The property was spotless and very comfortable to stay in. It is a few stairs leading up to it and has a parking spot for the hire car downstairs. You also have a shared swimming pool! It was only 45 minutes drive from the Airport. local shops were within 3 minutes drive. Villa: Great bedrooms, kitchen with everything you would ever need! Washing machine, AC and ceiling fans, kettle, pots and pans, everything! Nice air fresheners throughout the villa leaving a nice smell when coming back after a long day. Warning: You are not far from the jungle so keep surfaces wiped and avoid crumbs. Use the Vacuum and wash up. Tie knots in the bin bags and get rid of them by dumping them in the skip on the complex entrance. WHY you ask? Well it keep the tiny ants away! The kitchen is next to the main entrance outside the door. That was good as it meant we kept the villa nice and clean. Overall a nice stay were we could have breakfast when we wanted, warm up dinner and have a private stay just with the family. Response: Many thanks for your kind words, and glad you enjoyed your stay. Much appreciated. |
