The Central Nepal / Bagmati region

Nepal officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked sovereign state located in South Asia. It is located in the Himalayas and bordered to the north by the People’s Republic of China, and to the south, east, and west by the Republic of India. With an area of 147,181 square kilometers (56,827 sq mi) and a population of approximately 30 million, Nepal is the world’s 93rd largest country by land mass and the 41st most populous country. Kathmandu is the nation’s capital and the country’s largest metropolis.
Nepal has a rich geography. The mountainous north has eight of the world’s ten highest mountains, including the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest, called Sagarmatha in Nepali. It contains more than 240 peaks over 20,000 ft (6,096 m) above sea level. The fertile and humid south is heavily urbanized.
The Kathmandu / Bhaktapur area
Kathmandu is the capital and, with close to one million inhabitants, the largest metropolitan city of Nepal. The city is the urban core of the Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas, which contains two sister cities: Lalitpur (Patan), 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to its south and Bhaktapur or Bhadgaon, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) to its east, and a number of smaller towns. It is also acronymed as 'KTM' and named 'tri-city'. The municipal area is (50.67 square kilometres (19.56 sq mi))[6] and the population density is 19,500 per km².
The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) in the bowl-shaped valley in central Nepal surrounded by four major hills: Shivapuri, Phulchowki, Nagarjun and Chandragiri. Kathmandu valley is part of three districts, Kathmandu District, Lalitpur District and Bhaktapur District.
The city’s rich history is nearly 2000 years old, as inferred from an inscription in the valley. Its religious affiliations are dominantly Hindu followed by Buddhism. People of other religious beliefs also live in Kathmandu giving it a cosmopolitan culture. Nepali is the common language of the city, though many speak the Nepal Bhasa as it is the center of the Newar (meaning: citizens of Nepal) people and culture. English is understood by the educated population of the city. Besides a significant number of the population speaks any of the foreign languages like : Hindi, French, German, Chinese, Hebrew, Korean etc. The literacy rate is 98% in the city.
Bhaktapur district, located in the eastern part of Kathmandu valley, is the smallest among the seventy-five districts of Nepal. The district, with Bhaktapur as its district headquarters, covers an area of 119 km² .

Run by the Pokeral Family and excelelnt location in Kathmandu on a cliff over looking the farming lands in the flood plain of one of Kathmandus rivers. We were watching Eagles circling and the Planes landing at Kathmandu International. Great people excellent local and European feed, it is your choice but the Local Tea and curries were amazing. The rooms were clean and comfortable with Hot water and teh proximity is good for local shops. The hotel is not in the city center which is a huge advantage and it is also accessable to airport so from pick up you are at the hotel in 15mins. Hotels in the city centre can take over an hour!. We are back there again in 2013 when we climb ABC with our teenage kids. They are one pushing us for trekking in Nepal! Response: Thank you for your kind review. We would love to welcome you again. |

Gorgeous boutique hotel on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Away from the hustle and bustle of busy Kathmandu (only 10mins and a cheap taxi fare away), and overlooking small farms and a river, we spent many hours enjoying a drink on the terrace watching daily life go on around us and enjoying views of the Himilayas. We were hosted by the lovely Pokheral family, always with a smile. Our 6 year old daughter played with the local children and our 10 and 13 year old boys were fascinated by the local village life. Great place to stay for a relaxed, traditional Kathmandu experience. Response: Thank you for you kind review. It was our great plesure having you guys. We would love to welcome you again. |
