Home description
Two storey residential home, built in the early 1900's, we have gone to great pains to maintain the heritage exterior whilst incorporating all the necessities of a comfortable residence with an Asian flavour. The home is situated in a quiet, safe and secure residential enclave with front and rear access, one street from the bustling Penang Rd, shopping and night life.
All the delights of visiting the Heritage sights, museums, temples, clan houses etc. of George Town are within walking distance, along with the modern necessities of shopping, malls, markets, dept. stores and boutiques, cinemas. Of course always the most important part of Penang, FOOD. All this in walking distance.
A 4 min. walk will also take you to taxi's or public transport, for outings to Penang Hill, Kek Lok Si (biggest Buddhist temple in S.E.Asia) Batu Ferringhi beach and its popular night markets, and many more. Don't forget to check up on, or ask us what festivals are on in George Town during your visit, they are always a must see, multiculturalism at its best! Check out www.visitpenang.gov.my for event calendar
You can even see KOMTAR, Penang's tallest building and its most famous landmark from your window. Here is the perfect accommodation for those who want comfort, privacy, security and convenience.

The Penang Island region
Penang Island has a great history of multiculturalism, and a fine example of races and religions comfortably living together, the architecture is so varied and the colours of daily life fantastic. In George Town there is never a dull moment, for photographers, it's truly heaven!
There is always something to see and do and never a shortage of people to talk to, a smile is all that is needed to start a conversation, plus the majority of Malaysians speak English. Anyone will tell you that Penang is one big kitchen! Half the Island seems to be cooking whilst the other half are eating, that, together with the shopping, makes it an ideal place to do both and so inexpensively!
Many web sites are available re. the tourist attractions. But plan to take in some of the major festivals, one of the 5 New Years! Christmas, Thaipusum, Bon Odori, Hungry Ghost, Nine Emperor Gods, just to name a few. Take a look at www.visitpenang.gov.my for a Calendar of Events
Packing for Penang is easy, the weather hardly varies, lows of high 20's and highs of mid 30's. even when it rains, its warm rain! We don't have a monsoon season, just a few more showers around Sept. Oct. So you can pack light and leave room to take home all the bargains!
George Town, Penang Island area
Our properties are in the heart of George Town for those who want to really get to know their chosen holiday destination. In walking distance is the famous Blue Mansion Chong Fatt Tze, tours of the fabulous 1800's example how the 'haves' lived are conducted at 11am and 3pm.
The Peranakan Mansion, another lovely Straights Chinese home now housing a magnificent private collection of everything relating to that period and people. The Penang Museum, Sun Yet Sen Museum, The Clan Jetty's are fantastic, these homes built over the water are so unusual, each jetty belonging to a separate clan, Chew, Tan etc. and only those of that clan are allowed to live there.
Upper Penang Rd is the place to go for night life, night clubs, resaurants, cafes, bars aplenty, and on the last Sunday of each month a market is held under cover here, with fantastic hand made items, jewellery, antiques, art works etc. and entertainment and of course, being Penang, food, from 9am to 2pm. Chowrasta Market in Penang Rd (all day) is about 5 mins away and is just a riot of colours, this is the place if you want fabrics and next to that is the produce morning market from 8am to 11am, a must see.
Further down Penang Rd is the 4 way pedestrian overpass taking you to Komtar, the tallest building on the island, housing most of the Gov. offices and a viewing floor, worth seeing as it is only from above that you can appreciate what seems like small early shop lots from street level but from the 58th floor one realises that these narrow buildings, 15 to 20ft wide, can sometimes stretch back 150ft!
Next to this is Prangin Mall, everything you ever wanted in shoes, clothing, shoes, DVDs,computor games Playstation games, electronic equipment etc. deparment stores oh, did I mention shoes? And this is just some of the things to see, Penang is best seen on foot and that means at night as well, a whole new George Town emerges at night, all the food hawkers take to the streets and it is just one long constant eatathon!
By the way, the food and the water are perfectly safe to consume, in 8 years of living here and eating at just about every stall, we have never had a problem! If there is a crowd there, the food is good and so cheap, you can eat all day for about RM15!
Being an Island has the advantage of no matter where you are, you are never far from the sea, a short stroll from our property will have you sitting by the sea, eating and watching the sun set or going to the Spice Gardens, so cool under all the greenery and ovelooking the water. Or choose a day out at the many Beaches , but watch out for the sun!
How to get there
By air is the most usual, Penang is well serviced by all the major and budget airlines, cruise ships also make George Town a port of call.
Many travellers arrive here as part of their Asian Experience, hence coming via Singapore, Thailand or Kuala Lumpur so as well as flights, there are long distance buses to suit different budgets but still very low cost, or hiring a car is another inexpensive option. If you are arriving via Butterworth on the mainland, still part of Penang State, then you have a choice of the ferry or a bus, both of which terminate in George Town or if you are driving, the ferry also takes vehicles or travel via the 13 kl bridge connecting George Town to the Mainland. Penang has a wide ranging and very economical bus service that covers the majority of tourist attractions except for some of the more further afield sites such as the Butterfly farm, the Tropical fruit farm etc. but the hire of a taxi for the day can be arranged for very reasonable cost, and that will enable you to visit some of the other must see's, Kek Lok Si, the biggest Buddhist temple in S.E.Asia, the Thai and Burmese temples across the road from one another, the Botanical Gardens, a legacy of our Colonial past, the funicular railway, running up the side of Penang Hill where yet another temple, food, shops, a canopy walk and a fantastic view of George Town awaits you.
For shopping therapy, then Gurney Plaza on the famous Gurney Drive is a great way to finish a day, all the big brand name shops are there, but at local prices, you won't believe the difference in the cost of a pair of Nike's! Of course there is food every where, from up market restaurants to food hawker stalls and all are good!
These are just a few suggestions, feel free to call on our help for more info.
