San Pedro de Macorís
Landmark which is only about 10 km away from Juan Dolio, lively city (217,000 inhabitants), its large sugar factories are at Río Iguamo. Founded in 1822, it prospered after the First World War when sugar prices soared. The majority of sugar barons originating from Cuba those days created a Dominican Havana in San Pedro, which the beautifully restored houses in the city centre testify.
