The historic town of Javea is slightly set back from the coast and is a typical small Moorish-style town with narrow blind-alley streets and white-washed houses, and has a truely Spanish feel. There is a central covered market and several small tapas bars and boutiques can be found in the surrounding streets. There is also a weekly open-air market in the Plaza de la Constitucion. Javea Port was originally a fishing community but has now become one of the main tourist centres of the town. It is a lively bustling area with many shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.
