“Enjoyable vacation in tropical setting!” We really liked the easy access from condo to boardwalk in the complex and lovely pool, as well as mid-way location between Progreso and Chuxchelub great seafood restaurants and amenities, both of which are accessible walking on the beach shore only one block from Neek Kaan. Well-equipped open concept kitchen, comfortable master bedroom and living room. Day trips to cultural events in Merida and Mayan ruins are another bonus. Very good value!

“Wonderful relaxing getaway” El Cuyo is well off the beaten path as it takes a couple hours to reach the town from Cancun. The town is quaint and the community is very nice. The main attraction, however, is the beach. It is well maintained by the community and the water and sand are beautiful. The house is fantastic as well. We stayed in the rooftop cabana; a vaulted palm frond roof over our bed with a kitchenette, perfect for a couple going on a getaway. We had friends renting the downstairs apartments so we had nice evenings together outside. This beach isn't a party place, at least when we visited. We essentially had the entire beach to ourselves. Mattias is a great owner and very helpful. He maintains the property well. We would recommend having a car as it takes so long to travel between the towns.

“Hacienda at ElCuyo in May” We had a lovely stay at El Cuyo. The beach is wonderful, and the unusual and pretty house (we stayed in the lower apartment of the Hacienda) is in an idyllic location with the beach as your back garden.. The inside of the house we felt needed some love - cupboards all needed a good clean inside - as did other forgotten corners. (Whilst the mountain cabin style dark woodwork is pretty, it attracts cockroaches and other beasties, so keeping corners and cupboards crumb - free and clean is even more important.) Cleaning equipment provided was inadequate - there should have been a mop and indoor and outdoor brooms and dustpan and brush at the very least (a vacuum cleaner would have been a real luxury!) - this is doubly important when there are kids around with spillages etc.. I think I would be right in saying that most houses would consider it standard to provide salt / pepper / some basic condiments in the kitchen - this house had none. There was just about enough toilet roll to get through the first night. Finally can I recommend that the owner provides a little 'bible' of the house - just to know local emergency numbers / a map /basic local information like where to get water / pharmacy etc..Luckily I speak Spanish so I could ask the caretaker or other local person - but I would have been completely lost if I did not speak the language as the caretakers spoke no English. Overall - an idyllic spot and a romantic little house with so much more character than the faceless white apartments that dominate the coast. With some love and attention to detail and a bit of generosity with the basics - this is a lovely place to stay,

“Fantastic” If you are looking for a nice and quiet place in Yacatan, this is it! We stayed a week in El Cuyo with our 2 children: 3 years and 5 months old. And it was the best place. We really enjoyed our stay - and from our 6 week trip in Yucatan our stay in El Cuyo is one of the best memories from the trip. El Cuyo is really of the beaten track, and it's a small, charming and friendly little town. A word of advise: Rent a car during your stay - which we didn't. And with two children it's not the easiest place to get around without a car. The Lighthouse is a cosy house placed only a few meters from the beach. It has very basic features - everything works fine, although it could use an upgrade in the kitchen: pots, pans and knives and these sort of things. Thank's to Mattias for making our first visit to Yucatan very memorable! It's no wonder that our 3 year old son wants to go back to Mexico soon. Recommended.
