“Ultimate relaxation” We just spent 9 amazing nights at Villa Casona Palms. My wife and two girls ages 13 and 11 had a great time being "unplugged" and away from it all. Mario and angelina are great hosts and caretakers. The villa is very large and open with a great layout, it has beautiful wooden doors and windows. There was always a nice breeze off the water and the villa stays nice and cool even on hot days. The little town of Mahahual is about 30-45 min away by car. We went into town for dinner most nights. Several great spots to choose from: Fernandos was good and inexpensive, Tropicante and Nohoch Kay were good as well. Everyone was very friendly, the Pemex just outside Mahahual was good to us (no ripoffs) just make sure they zero out the previous purchase. We always tipped the fueler a few dollars. We have driven in this area of Mexico before but never south of Tulum. I wouldn't let the drive intimidate you. The roads have been improving over the years and the signs are accurate. Just pay attention and use some good defensive driving, some cars will drive quite fast and many others will be on the slow side. Michael sent us an email before we left with a lot of good information in it for your stay. He was great to work with and has a good reputation in town. We talked to several people who all agreed it is probably the nicest villa on the Costa Maya. We ended up getting to the villa just after midnight and felt bad about waking Mario but he gladly let us in the villa and showed us a few things inside and then let us move in. If you don't want to do the drive at night or have to leave early in the morning to catch your flight home you can stay in Cancun one night which is what we did on the way home. If you choose to "hang out" around the villa its perfect for that. If you want a little more adventure there's plenty of that as well.
