Up until Queen Victoria’s jubilee in 1887, the area that is called Camps Bay today was undeveloped and used for hunting. A road was completed to coincide with the Queen's jubilee, allowing the residents of Cape Town to cycle to Camps Bay and picnic on the beach.
As the popularity of Camps Bay grew, a tram line was built to ferry people back and forth to what was now a South African seaside resort.
Camps Bay has continued to grow in popularity over the years, firmly establishing itself as the Cape’s most desired address while being granted Blue Beach status for its impeccable white sand beach in 2008.

The best time to visit Camps Bay is during the summer (March to October) for the beach, but truth be told, if the beach is not your main priority, Cape Town is a great year-round destination.

Boat tours are a huge business in Cape Town and while many may mention Robben Island as part of their itinerary, the only ones that actually land on Robben Island are the ferries operated by the museum.
