“5 Star all the way...” Once you stay here, you'll never want to stay anywhere else. Very comfortable, clean, cozy cabins. Our cabin was decorated with attention to every detail, as was the main house and little chapel on site.. We loved the living water pond which could be heard throughout the property. A sound that drew friendly campfires, lots of wildlife, and provided a perfect relaxing atmosphere. We are looking forward to our next visit. My rating for this property is an absolute five star rating... :)

“Spectacular!! Way better than a hotel.” The cabin was better than any hotel we have ever stayed in. They looked like they were decorated by an interior designer. The owner was very accomodating with information for sight seeing and knowledge about the general area. This is the place I will stay every time I visit anchorage. 5 stars as far as I am concerned.

Alaska holidays

With vast expanses of wilderness draping the land, plenty of bears and moose, and mountain peaks that soar into the clouds, Alaska is undeniably one of the most beautiful states in the U.S. and a playground for outdoors enthusiasts. Winters here are long and cold, but the Northern Lights colour the sky in emerald and violet hues and help make up for the surplus darkness. Conversely, the summer sun seldom sets, and a 2 AM hike is a common activity. With so much vast wilderness to explore, it's hard to know where to start, but no matter when you come or where you go, America's last great frontier promises to leave you in awe of its grandeur.

Some of the state's most popular attractions and activities include:

  • Prince William Sound: A perfect place to launch your northern adventures, Prince William Sound offers spectacular panoramas of the glacier-frosted mountains that lead into a picturesque Harbor.
  • Anchorage: The state's largest city offers many excellent caf‚s and the friendliest group of people you'll meet.
  • Go for a cruise: Alaska cruises are extremely popular and offer casual visitors an excellent way to take in a broad sampling of the state's endless natural attractions and scenery.
  • Commune with nature: The state is filled with Alaska National Parks, offering sights and sounds you simply can't see anywhere else. You can visit Alaska fishing lodges to go ice fishing, take an Alaska dog sledding trip across the snow-covered ground or simply explore and enjoy the awesome scenery.
  • Journey the Dalton Highway: The only trace of civilisation throgh 414 miles of spectacular wilderness, the Dalton Highway runs from just north of Fairbanks to Deadhorse near the Arctic Ocean, and is one of only two roads in North America that cross the Arctic Circle.

Temperatures in Alaska are at their mildest in July, but summers are relatively short given the state's northern location. Spring and fall are excellent times to visit if you want to rough it in the outdoors, as you'll still get some daylight along with plenty of fresh snow.

Instead of staying in a hotel, why not experience the uniqueness of Alaska by staying in a cabin? These rustic holiday rentals offer more space and privacy with all the amenities of home. If you're staying in a major city like Anchorage or Juneau, you can also get a condo that will comfortably house couples, families and groups.

Expand your exploration of North America's majestic north by trekking into neighbouring Canada. The Yukon Territory borders Alaska and offers a similar wealth of spectacular scenery, gold rush-era boom towns and friendly hospitality.

Alaska Knotty Pine Lodge
Absolutely beautiful home in an absolutely perfect location...our favorite stay on the trip!

Our large group needed bedrooms, bathrooms, and plenty of space to spread out. This home afforded all of this; it's even better than the pictures show! Moses was a wonderful host and was easy to contact. We would love to visit again. … see more

Fort Alaska - Creekside duplex on nine acres
Great place to stay

We spent a great trip in Alaska. We had 3 couples with us and had a blast. Everything about this place was great. We enjoyed the fishing basically right off the balcony in the creek. We then cooked the fish on the grill and enjoyed the beautiful pavilion dinner table. We spent much needed relaxation time while it was raining just in the house. It is stocked very well and we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. I love that you can fly in and stop at the grocery store and cook at your place and don't have to eat out every meal. The duplex was comfortable and beautifully furnished. The only bad comment that I have is that the walls are thin and you can hear the people in the other duplex speaking.see more
Talkeetna Basecamp wilderness cabin accessible by car
Talkeetna Base Camp wilderness cabin

Absolutely wonderful cabin which we stayed at for three nights. It truly deserves its description as a wilderness cabin being surrounded by wild forest. The cabin is extremely comfortable and beautifully furnished. The kitchen includes oven with range and a fridge freezer and is stocked with many provisions - herbs, spices, tea and coffee. My wife and I stayed with her sister and husband. Only one bedroom but the sofa bed in the living room made it a comfortable space for four people. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming and happy to help with anything. Guests also have access to a sauna a minute's walk from the cabin. There is a deck above the sauna with incredible views over the surrounding area and mountains - we enjoyed breathtaking sunsets during our stay. The owners have a well stocked greenhouse and vegetable garden which guests are invited to use. Talkeetna, a charming small town with great places to eat, is a ten minute drive from the cabin and Denali is within a two hour drive. The Base Camp cabin is a perfect place to relax and the owners are extremely friendly and passionate about the environment in which they live. I could not recommend this cabin highly enough!see more
