The Western Cape region

Simonstown is located on the Southern Peninsula, the southern tip of the African continent. It is a small, historical, english town, popular with art lovers.

The winter is the rainy season, although the weather changes fast on the peninsula. The summers are moderately warm, with lots of sunshine and an occasional shower. The wind is usually from the South East or South West and can be strong at times.

Simonstown

Simonstown is an easy 30 minute drive away from Capetown. Stellenbosch and its wineries are less then an hour away by car. In Simonstown is a naval base, where large international vessels are often ankered. Next to the naval base is the local harbour and yacht club. From here one can go on fishing trips, whale watching trips or go see kayakking or sailing. Around the harbour are many terasses and restaurants.

All around Simonstown are lovely walks, many in area's that are national parks.

Popular activities include cycling, fishing, whale watching, bird watching, scuba diving, sailing, kayakking and ofcourse hiking.

The west side of the peninsula is a mere 10 minutes away by car. Here you find more splendid beaches along the shores of the (very cold) atlantic ocean. Horseback riding is popular here.
