The Galilee region

Safed is an ancient city built on a mountainside in the northern Galilee of Israel. The highest town in Israel, Tsfat (also spelled Tzefat and Zefat) offers the freshest air in Israel. And kabbalistically, it is known as the City of Air. With a climate similar to Jerusalem, Safed enjoys hot, dry days in the summer with cool, breezy nights. In the winter, it receives lots of rain and even snow sometimes (hence our fireplace).

There are ancient cobbled alleyways to explore, old synagogues to visit and an old graveyard where many famous Jewish mystics are buried. Shabbat in Tsfat is dynamic with prayer and song in many shuls across town. People often gather to sing and pray outside or on rooftops. In August, at the start of the Hebrew month of Elul, you hear shofars blowing as people prepare for the upcoming High Holidays.

Aside from the rich spirituality, there is a creative side. Many artists weave, sculpt and paint and there are many wonderful galleries ot explore. Come August, Safed is famous for its Klezmer festival where world renowned musicians gather in open-air theatres.

Safed is also a great base for exploring the north. Nearby are great hiking trails to splashing waterfalls. The beaches of Lake Kinneret and Tiberias is a half hour away. There is also the Golan to explore and many boutique wineries in the area.

We are happy to help our guests design an itinerary.

Safed

Villa Tiferet is in the heart of the Artist's Quarter of Safed. Park your car for free on the road above and take the steps down, The house is set at the end of a cobbled alleyway, and when you enter the old painted door into the courtyard, you will feel as if you are in another world.

Danny greets all our guests and shows them around the house. He is also available to answer any questions during your stay and can help out with guiding.

The house is steps away from the midrechov, the main street of Safed with shops and restaurants. If you are in Safed on a Wednesday, head down to the farmer's market where you will feel like a local.

The synagogues and galleries of the Old City are a 10-minute walk away from the house. If you love to hike or bike, you can do so from the front door. We are avid hikers and cyclists and will give you some tips on where to go.
