“st Mary's”

What to say , a quirky and peaceful retreat. The experience of staying at St Mary's , playing pool in the knave, watching the lake change minute by minute and the myriad of local experiences made for a great stay. Do go on the Talyllyn Railway and visit Barmouth , Fairbourne point for amazing views. Further afield the early bird truck Tours and deep mine experience at slate mountain well worth the trip ( take layers and enjoy the hot chocolate and lovely food) . Cader Idris also a great experience , for accessible walks and other walks available at increasing difficulty. We ate at The Railway Inn - Abergynolwyn , lovely food and friendly staff. We pottered around Dolgellau and Machynlleth and recommend finding out what weekdays these lovely places are closed ( we were very good at finding this out on the day they were closed!by turning up ) . The toilets at St Mary's are compostable and this caused a little concern , however ease of use and in depth instructions from Peter enabled this fear of to immediately disappear. Local shops, Tywyn and Machynlleth have large coops , Dolgellau has a Euro spar and there are great bakeries and butchers close by too. Only downside a week wasn't long enough to enjoy and explore the area. Thanks Peter from us two happy and newly engaged people, we blame the wonderful view from the bench above the church ! X

Owner's reply: Wow..what a full week you had...and so pleased for you both on your engagement...indeed there really is so much to discover around the area of Talyllyn..I do hope you come back to St Mary's again to continue your adventures...it is a wonderful old place to stay.. Thanks so much for your kind review. Pete

Had a fantastic week in Talylynn at St Mary's, meeting Peter the owner as we departed, who was a lovely person to chat with and who can share knowledge of the history of the church. Would have met him on arrival but we were much later than planned on our arrival day. Got to grips with everything fine in the church, even the eco-loo! Talylynn Lake is stunning whatever the weather. Had delicious meals in quite a few local eating places - particularly enjoyed the Cornel Hotel 2 mins walk away, also The Slaters Arms, Railway Inn, and Cross Foxes. All home cooked. Scenery is amazing. Cadair Idris is right on the door step for a challenging walk. Will definitely be visiting North Wales again.
