“A Pleasant Escape” This was a retreat to just get away from the City and enjoy being outdoors. We enjoyed the hiking and nature trails at Beaver Bend State Park. Most of all we just enjoyed the comforts of our cabin. It was very cozy and inviting. The furnishings were unique and comfortable. The kitchen equipment, stove, refrigerator, etc. were all new and very modern. It was so clean. The fireplace was nice, the deck was lovely. One evening we went into Broken Bow for dinner and ate at the Blue Rooster. The food was delicious and the service very good. If you go to the Blue Rooster, be sure and get one of their fried pies!! Our visit couldn't be better. This place was definitely priced right. There were other places in the area that were more expensive but couldn't possibly be any better than this cabin. We hope to go again some time this year.

Oklahoma holidays

A city which has undergone a pretty radical transformation in recent years, Oklahoma is today more up-market yachting than cow trading. Its fascinating Cowboy and Indian history is still there in the city's museums, but its newer face shows in hip areas such as Bricktown with its chic restaurants and canal tours.

To discover more about the city, pick a holiday rental slap bang in the middle. Holiday Lettings has plenty to choose from, so why not start there?

About Oklahoma

As “The Cowboy State”, Oklahoma boasts plenty of prairies and plains. As you explore, it's almost irresistible to picture Indians behind every large mountain rock face or a cowboy's horse munching grass in a pretty meadow.

Oklahoma City is the state capital and derives its name from the Choctaw Indian tribe who were moved here during the Indian clearances (also known as the Trail of Tears). In fact, the name Oklahoma is from the Choctaw language and translates as 'red people'.

It's all very cosmopolitan today though, to the extent the city actually has quite a reputation for Vietnamese food in its Asian District near Classen. In the former industrial railroad garage, known today as Bricktown, you'll find restaurants aplenty.

Outdoor enthusiasts meanwhile have Lake Hefner, the Martin Park Nature Center and even a huge skate park downtown.

What to do in Oklahoma

Try out a Coconut Cream Stout at the Battered Boar Brewing Company in Bricktown. It’s miles away from your ordinary beer and definightly something you’ll remember! And while you're in the neighbourhood, you might want to take a look at the American Banjo Museum or have lunch in one of the pretty canal-side restaurants.

When in Oklahoma, you must visit the city's National Stockyards. This cattle auction can only be accessed via planks of wood balanced on scaffolding (for better views of the animals). For a glimpse of real cowboys—and great meat loaf—there’s nowhere better.

Another 'must see' is the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. A water feature with black granight and a park of empty chairs beautifully and solemnly pays respect to 168 individuals who lost their lives in the bombing in the early nineties.

Visit the Museum of Skeletons (or rather, Osteology). The only skeleton museum in America, you'll find the bones of just about every animal on earth.

Top travel tips for Oklahoma

Don't visit in spring unless you're fine with thunderstorms and the possibility of big winds. Oklahoma City sits in an area known as 'Tornado Alley.' The movie Twister was filmed right here - that's how rough it is.

Going into town? Then save yourself some cash and hop on the Downtown Discovery bus if you spot it—it's free.

A taxi ride into the city from Will Rogers World Airport costs around $25. The city's EMBARK buses run every half an hour during the week and hourly on Saturday. It's also possible to travel by river cruiser—and in a climate-controlled cabin, no less.

A city which mingles its Wild West past with a contemporary, modern appeal, Oklahoma is certainly well worth a visit. It's a busy and 'happening' location, but the canal rides and city parks offer a more tranquil side, too. Come here and you'll find the city has a justified reputation for friendliness.

Nice

The cabin we stayed in was great. It had everything we need, linens, dishes, etc. The road going to it was pretty rough, but not too bad as long as you go slow. … see more

Nice location

I like that this cabin doesn’t have any neighbors right next to it. I also liked that it was in between being in the park and in town so you didn’t have to drive too far when going back and forth either way. The cabin was nice and clean and loved the covered back porch. I also give credit to the management as she was always prompt, nice and helpful for the times we needed her or had questions. The only real thing I had an issue with was the downstairs mattresses probably need to be replaced, but it’s camping, right? Overall, I would happily stay here again. :)see more

Absolutely above expectations!

Bare with me, this will be a long review! I want EVERYTHING to be noted. We reserved this property for two reasons. First, it has a full kitchen with appliances that we can use for preparing meals that were required due to my husband having surgery just a few days before we arrived. Also, because we were visiting to attend our daughter's basic training graduation, all she wanted was mom and dads homemade meals, which are unable to be done in a regular hotel room. On the first day of arrival (after driving 20 hrs or so), we opened the door and were immediately baffled by the space it really had. It was much larger than we'd expected. We had a cooler full of foods that we'd brought with us, we went to put it away and noticed that the refrigerator was not working. A very nice binder was placed on the dining room table with more information than you could imagine for your stay. It also had contact numbers for issues. I called, but it was late at night, so I sent a text with my concern, then went and grabbed a few bags of ice to throw in the cooler. First thing the next morning, I received a response that maintenance will be there soon to check the refrigerator. Within minutes, someone was at the door. After checking it out, he stated that he will be right back. Within an hour, he returned with a brand new refrigerator. Removed the bad one and replaced it with the new one in less than 15 minutes. I was flabbergasted by the fact that he made sure this was his priority and nothing else mattered until he completed this task. Now, here's the part that my heart filled with warm happiness and made my respect and stay with them so pleasing. The property owner sends a short few questions regarding special circumstances and/or requests for your stay before you arrive. I explained that husband had surgery and would be requesting a 1st floor apartment so he didn't have to struggle up or down any stairs. These owners went WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND! Not only did we have a 1st floor accommodation, but they stocked a cabinet in the kitchen with soup, crackers and rice for my husband. It was absolutely the most amazing thing I could ever imagine would happen. We were amazed to say the least. The bedroom was HUGE! The bed was very comfy as well. Two big walk in closets, with more than enough space. They also provide iron, ironing board, brooms and dustpan. Going to wrap this up by saying, you absolutely do not need to bring ANYTHING with you except your clothing and personal essentials like toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, etc. EVERYTHING else is provided for you. Towels, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, hand soap, tissue, hair dryer. dish soap, more pots and pans than you will ever need, dishes, utensils, EVERYTHING! I honestly can not think of anything negative to say, EXCEPT for ONE thing which is not a problem with the owners, but rather the cable/internet company they use. Internet services in that whole area is quite a downfall. Even regular cell phone services are bad with signals. Other than that, this was the best experience we have ever had and will definitely be using them again in the future and letting our family/friends know about them as well!see more
