Wadi Rum: Saleh's Safari Camp -- for wadirumtours
A truly beautiful experience in every way.

I found out about the tour of Wadi Rum with WadRum tours from a site belonging to Tudor Lomas who has had many years experience of Jordan and writes beautifully about the country. He recommended Saleh and his personalised tours and this proved absolutely merited. It was a really amazing experience and I found Saleh and his family to be warm and friendly with a genuine concern for his guests to ensure everything was provided as promised. Booking the tour was easy and I was able to contact Saleh directly by email and phone to make arrangements once I had submitted a booking on line. Tudor was also very helpful in arranging contact with Saleh and providing other details. Saleh arranged a pick up and return to Petra where I was staying. I was a female traveling alone so it was helpful to know that the drivers were recommended by Saleh. The trip from Petra took about an hour along the kings highway and the desert highway- the latter being a busy route with trucks taking goods from Aqaba north to Amman. It was a bit hairy in parts as the taxis weave in and out around these trucks at high speed with inches to spare. You need to take plenty of water however the drivers usually make sure they offer to stop to get some- mine actually bought me an ice cream too- how kind! The tour itself started at Saleh's house ( he also has a bedouin home in the desert itself) where you take fantastic Bedouin tea and meet his lovely family and he briefed on the tour. I had only booked a full day tour as was not able to stay overnight however when I mentioned to Saleh that I would have loved to have seen the desert at night he insisted that I stay late and have dinner and watch the sunset over Wadi Rum! And then made arrangements with the drivers to allow this to happen. Saleh also made the tour to suit the traveller. I was seeking the peace of the desert and to view it's splendour rather than tackle climbs and dunes or sand board (although I did have a go), so the day was focussed around this-and it was amazing!!!! So if you want anything from Saleh you just need to ask, but he is so good he knows what is right. The day is mildly strenuous with some walking, a bit of climbing, hopping in and out of the open 4 wheel drive if you are able and hot!!!! All the water, food and refreshments are provided and are very good. The tea is a must!!!!!!! The tour is terrific value and I would highly recommend it. It differs from the other tours on offer as it is very personally tailored, focussed on what you want from the day, and you are with guides who know the territory and want very much to share the experience with you. The Bedouin camp is lovely and clean and really well set out. The food is cooked by Saleh's wife Alia who is a lovely person.
