Kerala holidays

Kerala is located on the south west coast of India and is otherwise known as 'God's Own Country'. It features 600km of glorious Arabian shoreline, and is renowned for its sandy beaches and towering palm trees. If you're looking for a holiday rental while you're in Kerala, search Holiday Lettings today.

About Kerala

Kerala has a long history which is mainly centred around the spice industry. Many travellers from all over the world visit the resort to trade or try out the colourful dishes, which are embellished with local spices. The booming tourist industry has also brought a great deal of trade to the destination in recent years.

Kerala is also home to a whole host of wild animals including elephants, exotic birds and even tigers. Explore the area with a guide! It'll be sure to make your visit a memorable one if you've always wanted to see exotic wildlife up close.

On your trip, you'll be sure to come across a festival or two as the resort is known for its large association with the arts. Held on specific days of the year between December and February, the most celebrated include the Thrissur Pooram, Makaravilakku and Utsavam.

What to do

If you've always wanted to spot wildlife in their natural habitat, it’s worth visiting Wayanad Animal Sanctuary. You'll travel through the park in a two-hour jeep ride, with the accompaniment of a local guide who'll give you all the information you need.

The Pardesi synagogue built in 1568, will amaze you, with its exquisite hand painted floor tiles and illuminated chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Be aware to cover up your arms and legs out of respect, or unfortunately you won't make it past the entrance! Bags and camera also aren't permitted.

Fort Cochin, located in the city of Kochi is where visitors can get a taste of local life. The region can be explored entirely on foot, and the harbour is one of the most popular sights of this region. Fishermen pulling in the day's catch can be witnessed and later purchased from the nearby stalls. Delicious!

Top Kerala travel tips

Before travelling to India, you'll need to have the necessary vaccinations approximately 6-8 weeks before your trip. All overseas travellers will also need a Visa to enter the country.

Kerala's main airports include Trivandrum, Kochi and Kozhikode, and you can get around the resort easily with a wide variety of transport links. Options include train transfers, most commonly across the west, and a whole range of long distance bus transfers can be caught to transport you to your ideal location.

Between April-August is Kerala's dry period and temperatures may soar into the high 30s.

Kerala is definightly a resort for those hoping to explore the culture the resort has to offer, not forgetting the glorious natural surroundings of beaches and exotic wildlife. If you're now convinced to travel to this serene resort, browse Holiday Lettings to find your Kerala holiday rental.

ARATT MANSION - A Waterfront Mansion
Wonderful!

We recently spent 12 days at Aratt Mansion and had the most wonderful holiday. The mansion is a bit tired but the space and facilities are great. Faisel is an absolute treasure, he organises and assists with whatever you need. Chef is a very very good cook and each meal was amazing. The mansion is a bit off the beaten track so transport, taxis, Uber’s etc can be a bit hit and miss but whenever we got stuck Faisel sorted something. My husbands back went at one point and Faisel organised an orthopaedic massage at the local hospital. We went to the waterfalls, about an hour away, where my son proposed to his long term gf. Such a sight, was beautiful and on that occasion we had a driver for a day. We visited Cochin Fort, LuLu’s and so many places. But being able to come back to the mansion was brilliant, such a chill place. Thanks again Faisel and Chef for such a great holiday.see more
River Whisper Homestay
A home away from home

Neat and excellent property with nice premises by the side of backwater. China net fishing can be watched very close. Fresh breeze and quite surrounding have given us very relaxing atmosphere. The staff took care of us and served freshly prepared food as per our choice. Mr. Jaike took care of booking procedures and staff Shiva & Girija attended us so friendly and homely. We really enjoyed the stay. Recommend highly.see more
