“The beautiful river cottage is a relaxing retreat.” My fiancé and I are from Boston and we were in Portland visiting with friends and family. But a major highlight of the visit was our stay in the Husum House. We stayed only one night with another couple and their two young children, but we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and the kids did too. The cottage was impeccably clean and very well organized. The kitchen is spacious and had all the necessary pots, pans, plates, and dishes for fixing meals without being without certain utensils. They even had a large stock of spices and dried herbs. Pam and Matt thought of everything you could possibly need out here. The shiny wood stove was blazing the moment we arrived until we departed, which created a warm and cozy atmosphere; it was perfect for sipping cocoa or drinking a glass of wine and being with friends. The beds and sleeping quarters were so comfortable it felt like I was sleeping in a piece of heaven. I would rate it as comfortable as sleeping in my own bed. Upon the suggestion of Matt and Pam, we went to Everybody's Brewing. The young but cool and laid back clientele felt friendly and warm. They served awesome food made from quality ingredients and had a selection of great beers on tap. If they had this place in my neighborhood I would go there all the time. We would definitely love to come back in warmer weather when we can take advantage of the sun deck and river. The Husum House is the perfect retreat from the city situated in a beautiful environment where you can still go out to a local bar and get excellent food and beer after a long day of playing outside.
