Alabama holidays

Alabama's most notable present day attraction for holidayers is its slice of Gulf Shore paradise. With cities like Mobile that sit quaint and content on the crystal blue waters of the Gulf, it's easy to see why people flock to this Florida alternative. And if the beaches aren't enough to make you want to visit, the food is sure to convince you to make the trip. Featuring delicacies like blue crab, fried green tomatoes, and signature BBQ, Alabama cooking will make you feel right at home. Alabama National Parks and Alabama campgrounds also offer excellent opportunities to commune with nature.

Some of the state's other signature attractions and activities include:

  • Trail of Tears National Historic Trail: This beautiful nature trail was created to commemorate the struggle and survival of the region's native Cherokee people, who were removed from their traditional lands beginning in the 1840s.
  • Russell Cave National Monument: Offering a glimpse into the life of the region's prehistoric peoples, the Russell Cave National Monument chronicles more than 10,000 years of local settlement history.
  • Desoto Caverns: Located in Childersburg, Desoto Caverns is a family-oriented attraction that highlights the state's rich history and unique geographic features.
  • Fishing charters and cruises: Many different types of cruises from Mobile, Alabama and other coastal cities are available, including fishing trips, cassino cruises and sightseeing opportunities.
  • College sports: Alabama lives and breathes college football, and taking part in a tailgating party before a big game is a unique experience sports fans won't soon forget.

The autumn is an excellent time to visit Alabama, as the weather remains mild and the college football season is in full swing. If you're in Alabama's Gulf Shores during October, be sure to check out the National Shrimp Festival to sample some of the world's best seafood.

A holiday rental is an excellent alternative to staying in a hotel, offering more privacy and space for couples, families and group holidays. Consider a condo or a villa-style beach rental if you want to be close to the coast while enjoying all the comforts of home.

Alabama's Interstate highway system makes it easy to access the neighbouring states of Mississippi, Georgia and Florida if you want to explore the Gulf Coast further. Each region in the southern United States has its own distinctive traditions and cuisines, offering visitors a rich and unique holiday experience.

Dog-Friendly, Modern Avondale Bungalow Featured in Birmingham Magazine
Excellent stay

We rarely travel with our dogs because they are used to free roaming our house and having a yard. This darling cottage was the best answer we have ever found. The house had a well fenced, private back yard where they happily sniffed and played. The ground-level deck had seating and a gas grill. Even in December we enjoyed time outside in the back and on the screened side porch. In addition, the neighborhood was walkable and had a huge park within half a mile for more outdoor fun. The house itself was pup and human friendly, with trendy decor and comforts of home. The floors are wood and tile, so no worries about paws on rainy days. The kitchen had nice, full sized appliances including the washer/dryer. Both beds had comfortable memory foam mattresses. I would highly recommend this home for up to three adults or two adults with small children. There is no additional room or furniture for sleeping extras, but there is ample seating to have visitors both inside and outside for social gatherings. We enjoyed our stay, including delicious bbq from numerous nearby restaurants and some browsing at local boutiques. I will absolutely book here again in the future.see more
