“Perfect, peaceful retreat in beautiful Devonshire countryside” When we booked our stay at Pond Cottage we hadn't bargained on it being during the wettest week of the wettest June on record! No matter, we had a lovely warm and friendly welcome from John & Renate and were made to feel welcome and at home immediately-eggs, jam and rhubarb a lovely touch and thoroughly delicious, thank you. The cottage was everything we could have hoped for, spacious enough to accommodate 4 adults and a 7 week old baby (and all the paraphernalia that entails!) very comfortably and easy to cosyy up in the evenings-we even had the log burner going on a couple of occasions! Very well appointed with every appliance and piece of equipment we could have wished for so that we could fend for ourselves exactly as if we were at home but with the added bonus of beautiful surroundings including the views, the pond, the animals, the arboretum and the pool-unfortunately the weather did not allow us to enjoy them all to the full; hopefully another time. It even seemed a totally natural thing to be greeted by the ducks, geese and hens every morning and when we returned home after a trip out. The cottage is very well placed to stay locally and enjoy walks in beautiful countryside or to visit nearby attractions or for trips further afield to National Trust houses, historical houses and either coast and if the weather is so bad you can comfortably stay in the cottage where there is a host of DVD's, books and games. We really enjoyed the tour of the farm and the stories/history of the place, watching the sheep shearing and "helping" herd the sheep from one field to another. John & Renate's passion and enthusiasm for what they do is very clear and they are genuinely happy & keen to share it with their visitors. Thank you John and Renate for a lovely stay, you have created something very special here and we would love to come back in the not too distant future.
