“We all agree that this stay was the ‘London experience‘ we were looking for.” Three of us stayed here in May last year, all on our first trip to London, and just loved the warm character of the East End and its proximity to central London. David and Alejandro, the hosts at Stepney House, are on the ball. They are wonderful company, know London extremely well and pointed us to some fascinating features of the city. Alejandro prepared ample and nutritious meals and guided us to his favorite restaurants; the Chilean restaurant was my personal favorite. It is a short walk to the famous Brick Lane and Spitalfield markets where there must be nothing you can’t buy (I had lost my iPhone power cord and found a cheap spare here in 10 minutes). On Sunday the historic Columbia Road flower markets are nearby and a spectacular sight. Stepney House is so close to London, a short walk to Bethnal Green station for the Underground, or you can take the scenic route on the top deck of a London bus. We were delighted to meet some of the neighbours, real East Enders, all so friendly and fascinating to talk to about the history of the area. One highlight was a visit to a nearby aged care home where we put up flags, cooked a barbeque, and put on a sing-along for the residents and staff to celebrate the marriage of William and Kate. How very British, and what a hoot! We all agree that this stay was the ‘London experience‘ we were looking for, rather than an average tourist visit to London.
