King coconut lodge
Absolutely wonderful family holiday

We were so lucky to find King Coconut Lodge. We spent five nights there over new year with the whole family of 7 adults and one two year old grandchild. It was truly a great experience. We were supported so very well by the owner of the lodge Torsten Schmidt. He lives in Germany but gave us such excellent advice in planning our visit. On arrival we were met by the lodge manager Neel and the two staff who work at the villa. They could not have been warmer, more courteous and helpful. Breakfasts were arranged daily at the villa and were delicious - fresh fruit, great coffee and wonderful Sri Lankan omelettes. We also arranged two dinners at the lodge which were just perfect. The accommodation was very comfortable, the garden beautiful and the pool wonderful. If we needed to get a beach tuk tuks were arranged almost instantly by the housekeeper. All in all a wondeful family holiday which we will long remember.see more
August Beach House
Can't wait to go back!

I recently spent a short stay at the newly named August Beach House which is situated on the beach of Weligama Bay. Such a lovely house in a great location. Michelle was great with the last minute booking and I think the combination of lovely staff, stylish decor and one of the South's best surfing and swimming beaches makes this house unmissable. Can highly recommend.see more
Serenity Villa
Pet-friendly villa close to beach and town but away from hustle and bustle

I stayed at Villa Serenity with my dogs for almost a year and a half. The villa is very spacious and has a beautiful, well-kept garden that attracts a wide variety of beautiful birds, butterflies, bats, squirrels and the occasional monkey. The house itself is light and airy, I never really needed to turn on the air-conditioning, and has two large double bedrooms (one en-suite) and a smaller bedroom with two single beds. The living room is spacious with a large indoor pond with fish, which is a really nice feature of the house. The kitchen and dining area are also spacious and look out over the paddy fields. The house has a second family bathroom and a washing machine. Both bathrooms have a shower, toilet, bidet and basin and come with a hair dryer. The kitchen is also well equipped with a fridge / freezer, hob, oven, microwave, kettle and a wide range of pots, pans, dishes, glasses, etc. The veranda all around the house is lovely and it's a true pleasure relaxing in one of the chairs at the back of the house overlooking the paddy fields, especially if you're a bird lover because it's a treasure trove of beautiful birds! It was also a pleasure to watch the annual cycle of the paddy fields from sowing to harvesting. The house has all modern comforts, including WiFi, good mobile telephone reception and a safe-deposit box in the wall inside the wardrobe of the master bedroom, albeit that I never used it because I felt absolutely safe at the villa. Gunna the housekeeper is extremely friendly and the owner's family live next door and are also extremely friendly and always willing to help out and assist.Especially when you're trying to learn the local language! I used Victor, their recommended tuk-tuk driver, for most of my time at the villa. The house is situated on the outskirts of Hikkaduwa, it's about 700 yards from the nearest beach and about 1.5 miles to town. This is actually really nice because the house is in a very quite location, without the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist season and the weekend nightlife whilst you can still reach Hikkaduwa beach and town in about 10 minutes on foot. Supermarkets and weekly markets for fruit, vegetables and fish are close by and day trips to Galle, Hikkaduwa turtle sanctuary, and several other tourist attractions are easy to organise. It's also very easy to get to other places because the house is also within easy reach of the Southern Expressway (the Baddegama entry). I took advantage of this for day trips to Uda Walawe National Park, Bundala National Park, Sinharadja Rain Forest, etc. I also spent several weekends away at Yala National Park and Wilpattu National Park leaving the house (and my dogs) in the capable hands of Gunna the housekeeper. Nothing was ever stolen, I always came back to a perfectly cleaned and pleasant home. Gunna also prepared dinner for me and otherwise, if you don't want to cook yourself, there are many good restaurants and take-aways in the immediate vicinity of the house. The area around the house is also perfect for running and cycling, both of which I did a lot during my time at the villa. All in all, the villa offers quiet and peaceful day-to-day life in a beautiful setting at a lovely location close to beach and town without the hustle and bustle. When I return to Sri Lanka in the future I will definitely stay here again!see more
Lakeview Villa, Koggala Lake, Galle
Breathtakingly beautiful property with the most delightful hosts.

The view from Lakeview Villa will literally take your breath away. The house is stunning - beautifully designed with enormous rooms and terraces. The swimming pool is a great size and just the right temperature. The grounds are well kept and great for wildlife spotting. The most wonderful thing about this property though is the people. Sonali and Lasantha keep the place spotless and cook fabulous meals - exquisitely spiced curries or anything else you'd like and they are delightful company. Raja tends the grounds and is great at pointing out the local wildlife - we spotted over 30 species of birds as well as monitor lizards, iguanas, bats and monkeys during our stay. He's also happy to climb a coconut tree to pick fresh coconuts for drinking - which is quite spectacular! I hope that one day I will return to this beautiful place.see more
The Pavilion near Unawatuna
An amazing holiday!

As with the last reviewer, I too have just stayed in The Pavilion for a two week holiday - I may run out of superlatives in this review, as I describe how wonderful it has all been! We were met by Shashika, the manager, at Colombo Airport and whisked down the expressway to Galle. The Pavilion is situated in jungle forest and is bright, clean and relaxing. Whilst in the garden or swimming in the lovely pool I enjoyed watching birds, dragonflies, monkeys and chipmunk on a regular basis. Shashika in an excellent host - always smiling and helpful, as are his parents who assist him in the daily running of the villa. Meals were amazing and extremely tasty from wonderful Fruit Smoothies, to a Rice and Curry Buffet (c/o Shashika's Mum), a Seafood Barbecue (c/o Shashika & his Dad) and a Roti Curry - this last being served after a terrific display from the local Fire Dancers. Day trips out from The Pavilion are easily organised, whether to Wijaya or Unawatuna Beaches, local temples or The Dutch Fort area of Galle - where a visit to The Heritage is a must. Further afield, visits to a Tea Plantation and a Turtle Hatchery were extremely informative and the trip to Yala Nature Reserve, though out of season, provided us with views of lots of wildlife: Elephant, Water Buffalo, Crocodile, Mongoose, Monkeys and many birds. We also spent a morning Whale-watching and were rewarded with Blue Whale sightings. Further afield still was an overnight trip to beautiful Ella in the hill country and an 'interesting' train ride to Nanu Oya - the scenery was breathtaking, but the train crush wasn't so pleasant! I can honestly say that we do not want to leave this beautiful and happy place, but needs must and we have other priorities now to fulfil. Beautiful memories have been created arnd hopefully there will be a future visit to The Pavilion in Unawatuna, Galle, Sri Lanka.see more
