Of all the things to see in Rome, the Trevi fountain can't be missed. This is the largest and most beautiful baroque fountain in the world. It was designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi in 1732. Much later, it gained iconic status after featuring prominently in several films including Federico Fellini's classic La Dolce Vita.
The fountain dominates the Piazza di Trevi. The name Trevi derives from the three roads (tre vie) that meet here. The water flows underneath the roads via the Aqua Virgo, a first-century aqueduct. It bursts out of the fountain over Neptune's chariot, which is pulled by sea horses. This is a perfect spot to take photographs or to listen to the sounds of the water rushing over the fountain's rugged rocks.
A short distance from here are the Roman Forum and Pantheon. But this is the best place to round off your trip to Rome. Why not throw a coin into the sparkling waters and wish for your return to the Eternal City?
