Next to this is the family bathroom, complete with shower, basin, bidet and W.C. Our air-conditioned living room is exceptionally well-appointed, with contemporary furniture including an incredibly comfortable leather sofa-bed, a coffee table which converts to a dining table with four chairs for interior use, a T.V./D.V.D. player, music system and plenty of books. The kitchen area contains a gas hob with electric oven, a microwave, a fridge with small freezer compartment, an espresso coffee machine and all the crockery, cutlery, glasses and utensils you might need (including some non-breakable for small children). We have a washing machine, iron and ironing board and all bedding and towels are included.

We also provide a cot (with sheets) and a high-chair, four sun-loungers, two sun umbrellas, plenty of swimming towels, a cupboard full of children's beach toys and some flippers and snorkels for any age.

Location description from owner

The Calabria region

Calabria is flanked by both the Tyrrenhian Sea on the west and the Ionian Sea on the east, with the towns on the latter coast having a strong Greek influence. Located in the south-west of Italy (on the toe of the boot), Calabria, with its rich history and culture, deserves to be better known. Nature, history, people and traditions contribute to its identity. Differing landscapes, from the stunning coastline with craggy cliffs set against the brilliant blue seas to the rugged mountainous inland dotted with traditional villages, Norman castles and churches make it an area worthy of more than one visit.

Many towns and villages hold local festivals celebrating a religious figure or a local food product! On a more contemporary note, there is an open-air blues festival in Tropea every September, when, throughout the week, bands feature in different streets and squares in the town.

Tropea dates back to Roman times; legend says that Hercules, returning from Spain, stood on the Coast of the Gods and made Tropea one of his ports. It is still a thriving port and a delightful town of narrow, cobbled streets, cafes, restaurants , boutiques and wonderful ice-cream parlours, with a busy market every Saturday -not forgetting its amazing beach!

North of our apartment is the medieval town of Pizzo with its famous 'tartufo'- a delicious ice-cream desert to be enjoyed sitting in the magnificent piazza, looking over the glittering sea.

Wherever you go you will find delicious food - local cheeses, wonderful fresh fish caught daily and, of course, pizza and pasta. Calabrian villages have not lost their local shops and even the smallest of places can supply everyday needs. Roadside stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables are everywhere, laden with the famous cipolla di Tropea, the area's prized red onion and the ubiquitous red chilli. There is a supermarket a short walk from our apartment. Close to our apartment is a pizza venue within walking distance and open all year round. A little further - about a five minute drive, is the village of Zambrone, with its butchers, grocers, fresh fish merchants, pharmacy, post office and little bars, also serving delicious (and cheap!) pizzas.

Zambrone Marina is a couple of minutes' drive away, where more seasonal restaurants can be found and a long, white, sandy beach. The Capa di Cozze beach (see photos) is a short walk across the fields from the station and there are many secluded beaches along the coast.

Driving south , the city of Reggio di Calabria provides more shops, restaurants, museums and a port from where a short ferry trip across the Straits of Messina gives access to the delights of Sicily - a great day trip, if not a longer visit.

The volcanic island of Stromboli (just visible from the apartment on a clear day!) can be visited by picking up one of the many boat trips available from nearby towns. With its black sands, squat white houses and scarcely any motor vehicles, Stromboli provides a wonderful day out, culminating in a late, lingering boat trip around the island to view red hot lava crumbling from the crater in the darkness.

Whether you wish to explore further afield or laze in the glorious sunshine, this area has it all, and our apartment provides a perfect venue for your stay. We would be happy to welcome you and look forward to receiving your enquiries.

Zambrone

Beautiful beaches are plentiful. Nearby Tropea is considered by many to be the hidden jewel in the Italian crown. The local coastline is known as the Coast of the Gods and Tropea was placed third in a list of the ten best beach holidays in Italy, described as "a classy enclave that is the region's answer to Positano or Taormina." (The Telegraph Travel: Destinations 23/12/2016) The town manages to retain its characterful charm whilst being a popular tourist destination. Stroll around during the passegiata, when locals meet, chat and enjoy a drink in the late afternoon sunshine.

For more energetic visitors, sailing, diving , horseriding and walking will keep you busy.

“Perfect hideaway close to many lovely places”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2012

This location is close enough to Lamezia airport to make for easy transfer.( Rental cars should be checked thoroughly before you agree to take them - they may try to shaft you with the cost of damage that wasn't your fault). The apartment is in a very peaceful complex with a brilliant pool. Trees are a bit lacking as the whole place is pretty new. The actual apartment is beautifully equipped with very tasteful, modern and stylish furniture. We are great fans of Inspector Montalbano and found ourselves imagining that the TV series should have been based here! The boat trip to Stromboli is a MUST DO! Take the lunchtime boat so that you have dinner on the island and see the volcano after dark - its more spectacular that way.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your wonderful review, we look forward to seeing you again sometime at the Amalfi Resort, Zambrone. Best Regards, Tom and Paul, CMS
