Please note: We offer either three night weekend breaks Friday to Monday or four night midweek breaks Monday to Friday; three night midweek breaks are sometimes available between Monday and Friday but only as late availability, ie seven nights before arrival. Overdale Cottage is a beautiful 200 year old former lead miner's cottage in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Set in a stunning location tucked away down a cobbled footpath on the side of Bradford Dale in the picturesque village of Youlgrave.

A superb and very spacious one bedroom cottage, it is full of character with exposed beams and stonework, original gritstone fireplace with woodburning stove and full gas central heating.

The roof terrace and gravelled garden have breathtaking views over Bradford Dale and beyond – the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine or cup of tea after a day spent walking or sightseeing.

The are three pubs in the village selling good quality food and ales. There is also the Youlgrave Village Shop and Tea Rooms, a Post Office/general store and a bakery.

With numerous walks straight from the door Overdale Cottage is perfectly situated to explore the whole of the Peak District and is within easy reach of Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell and Matlock.

Pets are welcome by prior arrangement (maximum of two), small supplement applies.

“Cosy cottage in a fabulous location”

We had a wonderful week at Overdale Cottage. Perfectly situated for many walks from the lovely village of Youlgrave, we loved the view along Bradford Dale from the cottage and its roof terrace. All amenities were provided and everything was well maintained. Our only watchout is access: do not attempt to drive down the narrow lane as you are liable to damage your car! Park on the main road and don’t bring too much luggage as you’ll have to carry everything along the steep path from the main road to the cottage.

“A lovely Christmas stay”

Just back from a lovely Christmas at Overdale Cottage. It is really very comfortable and well-equipped - plenty of kitchen equipment to make a Christmas menu! As others have said the situation is really very fine, with lovely views out over the Bradford Dale and walks from the door. The wood-burner was great and the chap who offers wood (on the main street, opposite the small, foot entrance to Bankside) gives great value; a large bag of kindling and large bag of logs for £8 the pair (eat your heart out Cotswold visitors!) Do be aware of the access, though. It is a steep path down to the cottage and everything has to be carried. Parking and dropping-off is probably safest and easiest done from the main street which is about 75+ yards away. Perfectly doable if you're the type of person who's coming to Derbyshire to walk and enjoy the countryside (but just plan what you take, as you have to carry it all down and back!) Lovely place; would recommend it.

Youlgreave is such a beautiful area quiet & relaxing the scenery is out of this world, everyone around there is so friendly & the food is amazing especially in The Bulls Head the suet steak & ale pie is to die for. Overdale cottage where we stayed was a beautiful cottage but considering they had previous let leave 3days prior to myself & my wife arriving I could not get over the un-cleanliness of the cottage there were cobwebs everywhere & u couldn’t move in the place without a fly landing on you, also there was a really musty smell to the place. Would of rated 5 out of 5 but it needs a real good clean, & a new bed & clean curtains. For the money we paid we were dissatisfied.

Owner's reply: We were very, very disappointed with this review because your complaints simply are not true and we hope that future guests will take the time to read previous reviews which praise the cottage for its cleanliness. We do not understand why you would say that the cottage was unclean, full of cobwebs and flies and smelt musty because it was clean when we left, and the curtains are certainly not dirty. No one else has complained about the bed and we stay there ourselves regularly to make sure that everything is in good order. I sent you a lot of information regarding the cottage and surrounding area including directions to the cottage but you phoned and said you couldn't find the cottage so my husband talked you to it, you told him you hadn't read the directions. You lit a fire even though we were in the middle of a heatwave and for some reason switched the boiler off although there is a sign on it asking guests to please not adjust any of the settings. We both really regret accepting your booking, we know that people have the right to put their reviews on here but you have been very unfair and untruthful with your comments and we hope that future guests will take the time to read previous reviews and rely on those and not this one bad one.

My husband and I have just enjoyed 4 great nights here which we thoroughly enjoyed. The location of Overdale Cottage is excellent, in the lovely village of Youlgrave which is near to Bakewell and is well situated for exploring the Peak District. There are 3 eating pubs in the village within walking distance and a couple of local shops. The cottage itself is immaculate and well equipped with great character. It is situated down a short, steep cobbled path only accessible by foot so is not suitable for those with mobility problems but the cottage and views are well worth the short walk and there is ample parking close by on the village street. The roof terrace is fabulous, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine in the sunshine and the scenery is stunning. This hidden gem is well worth a visit!
