Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

Northern England region Yorkshire, the largest and most diverse county in England. Not without justification do Yorkshiremen call their county 'God's own country'. From the stunning countryside of the Yorkshire Dales National Park with it's rolling hills and valleys studded with beautiful villages and old market towns to the historic North Yorkshire coast with it's famous resorts of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey and the wild North York Moors, Yorkshire is packed with ancient castles, ruined abbeys and majestic stately homes of the aristocracy. No other county can match it for it's beauty and heritage.

York Riverside

York, the jewel in Yorkshire's crown, voted England's Favorite City, European tourism City of the Year. There is always something going on to surprise and delight the visitor. This beautiful old walled city has over 2000 years of history. York has been important to many invaders. The Romans named York Eboracum and was home to the legendary Ninth Hispana and Sixth Victrix legions, Roman Emperors were acclaimed and died in this city. Viking Kings ruled from here and named it Yorvik. Norman stronghold, William The Conqueror fortified the city to subdue the rebellious North after the invasion of 1066. King George VI said 'The history of York is the history of England'.The city is alive with history with every twist and turn of its narrow streets, York Minster, the ancient 'Shambles', Cliffords Tower, Merchant Adventurers Hall, Kings Manor, Treasurers House, Yorvik Viking Centre, the list goes on. World class horse racing, superb museums [the Yorkshire Museum, Castle Museum and National Railway Museum], old haunted Inns and pubs, year round festivals, street entertainers, ghost walks, riverboat trips, lively bars, cosy bistros all combine together to make York the city to visit whatever the season. York, a city where an ancient past feeds a vibrant present.

“Birthday Weekend”

Reviewed 14 Mar 2017

What a wonderful house, bright and spacious, we loved our stay there... just right for our family weekend. Stylish decor with a lovely outside area looking onto the river. All the extra touches from the owner (wine, bread, milk and eggs to name just a few) were ready for us on arrival and were very welcome. This house... and it's owners are very special and we look forward to booking another stay there.

Owner's reply: Thank you so very much for your kind review, we look forward to seeing you all again in the future.

“Lovely stay in York”

Lovely town house spacious very clean and comfortable and tastefully decorated. Close to the city centre. The front of house parking was great. The provision of wine and essentials was much appreciated. We will definitely recommend this property to friends and family. We also hope that we can stay again in the future. Thank you

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your kind words and do please come back to she us , your more than welcome.

“Perfect!”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2016

I've just returned from York and have had a fantastic weekend with friends at Riversmead. The house was situated in a quiet location with just a short walk in to York centre. We arrived by train and jumped a taxi to the house which cost only £6. The house itself was modern, exceptionally clean with a lovely outside area which over looks the river. The house felt really homely with the owners leaving wine, cereals and eggs for us which was a really lovely touch. We will definitely be back, it was a great weekend. I can highly recommend Riversmead.

Owner's reply: We are so pleased you enjoyed your weekend at riversmead and you are all welcome back anytime. Thank you so much for your kind comments

“Everything we wanted!”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2016

My husband and I stayed here with our adult daughter, who is on exchange at U of York. Jayne decorated the place for Christmas for us, even a tree! We had a lovely week here and would definitely stay here again. Everything is clean, well maintained and attractive. The location is only a few minutes walk from the wall of the city and all of the sights. A gem!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind comments

“Great place, very convenient, central yet calm.”

Reviewed 6 Dec 2015

This was a very well-kept place, and ideally located just outside the city wall. We enjoyed immensely the terrace, which overlooked the river. The only possible drawback may have been the fact that there was only one toilet/bathroom, which is a little on the short side when you are a company of five persons.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind comments, most terraces in your have the one bathroom thou but pleased you enjoyed your stay

“Great location, beautiful house”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2015

We stayed for 2 nights, wish we could have stayed for more! Lovely clean holiday home, absolutely perfect location, walking distance to shops, restaurants etc. A welcome pack of breakfast bits and bobs and wine waiting for us, a very nice touch! Everything you need in the house. Unfortunately it rained so we couldn't use the BBQ or the lovely outdoor area looking over the river. If we return to York we would definitely book again. Highly recommended!!

Owner's reply: Thank you come and visit again soon

“Absolutely fantastic.”

Great location, accommodation excellent. Everything was so clean, plenty of room. Welcome pack was amazing and so much more than expected. Really don't want to review or rate this accommodiann , cause I want to stay again and don't want to find it not available, cause it's already booked.. Thank you so much for a fabulous stay.

Owner's reply: What wonderful comments so kind of you. We welcome you back any time.

“A Friendly and Welcoming House”

Reviewed 30 Apr 2015

The house was clean, cozy but not too cluttered -enough to make it feel very much a home. It has a rear garden with an amazing view of the river. The area is quiet, seems very safe and at the same time very close to the centre of York. All in all, if I were to go again and I needed a 5-bed, I'd definitely go again!

Owner's reply: We appreciate your kind comments . Yes the river foss is amazing , specially this time of year with all the wildlife and baby duck, swans and gosling, it fascinating to watch them use the crossing in front of Clifford's tower too. Once thank you for your kind comments and we hope to see you again in the future.

“A great place to stay!”

Very comfortable, everything we needed to make our stay very enjoyable and relaxed. Loved the extra touches such as the wine and chocolates on the bed, which made it feel like a real treat. Really handy location to walk in to York. 10 out of 10!

Owner's reply: We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for your kind comments. We hope you return to us in the near future.

“A beautiful property just a short walk from the city centre! Lovely!”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2014

We absolutely loved this property! It felt just like home! The property is located just outside the old city walls which makes it convenient for walking into town. It sits on the River Foss and from the back garden you can see a part of the city wall. The back garden is spacious and all fenced in which was perfect for our 2 year old. The inside of the property is well decorated and was very clean on arrival. The owner left us lots of goodies including eggs, milk, OJ, bread and wine. These were much appreciated! The house was so well stocked with everything you could need from cooking utensils to soft towels. We especially enjoyed the little chocolates on all the pillows when we arrived. We will definitely stay in this property again if we even visit York and will recommend it to friends. Thank you for everything!

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your very kind comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again in the future. We've now had riversmead for just over a year and are guest have already stared to revisit us , With help off all our guests kind comments .
