Description from owner

Description

Dartmoor beckons. There are two rental properties at Bedford Cottage; The Lodge (548563) and The Forge (1345376) and both are located in the centre of Buckland Monachorum, a small village near Yelverton on the western edge of Dartmoor. A warm welcome awaits you but have a look at our reviews on TripAdvisor to see what other guests have thought about The Forge and the surrounding area.

Excellent walks surround the Forge at Bedford Cottage making it an ideal base for two people to explore Dartmoor (accessed directly from the Forge) with its varied walks ranging from open moorland to woodland and river walks. West Devon has so much to offer with easy access to the coast for beaches, sailing, fishing and golf as well as numerous historical and adventurous places to visit.

Many years ago this cottage was the village forge in Buckland Monachorum, now little trace of its history remains as it has been converted to make a delightful escape for two. Adjoining the owners home, this is a lovely property full of character and charm featuring a light and airy living room with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and a stone fireplace with a gas log-effect stove. There is also a galley style kitchen, a modern downstairs bathroom with bath and shower. Upstairs there is a galleried double bedroom, again with vaulted ceiling and exposed beams; please note that the stairs are quite steep and would not be suitable for those with mobility issues. Guests are welcome to relax and enjoy the south facing garden.

Just a short walk away is The Drake Manor Inn, which serves good food and ale.

Short breaks are available for a minimum of 3 nights.

Regrettably pets are not allowed in The Forge, but well behaved pets can stay in The Lodge.

“Lovely cottage in a pretty village”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2018

The Forge is spacious, extremely clean and beautifully decorated. It has all the facilities you need. Also good WiFi, which is essential because the mobile signal is very poor, like in many places in Devon. Carol and Andrew (the owners) are very nice people who know a lot about the area. They give good advice and recommendations about what to see and where to find the best of Devon and Cornwall. And Dartmoor! The Moor and its paths, hills, corges, horses, sheep etc. is a wonderful experience. We had a lovely stay and can’t wait to be back!
