Location description from manager

The Turkish Aegean Coast region

The Bodrum Peninsula - Aegean coast
On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.

History
Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artefacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geri?), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.

Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Bodrum
Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.

Yalikavak

Yalikavak, 18 km away from Bodrum centre on the north western tip of the Bodrum Peninsula, has grown in size over recent years, but remains still very much a place where the locals welcome holiday makers with open arms. The permanent inhabitants of Yalikavak number around 6,800 people.

Yalikavak is becoming ever more popular as an alternative resort to Bodrum. The small harbour is surrounded by restaurants and bars, and while there is the occasional disco bar, the general atmosphere is quiet, unhurried and relaxed, yet further along the shoreline is a new sophisticated Marina.

Approaching Yalikavak from Bodrum you cannot help but notice the stunning panoramic view of Yalikavak Bay. This fertile coastal region is ideal for sailing and all water sports and attracts many foreign yachts to the Marina and old harbour that once sheltered mainly fishing boats.

Fishing & Seafood
Yalikavak still supports a thriving fishing industry and the restaurants around the picturesque harbour display a wide selection of fresh fish every day. The town is known for its excellent seafood restaurants - try Sait, you won't be disappointed.

Restaurants
Yalikavak has a huge selection of restaurants to suit all tastes.

Shopping & Market
There are many shops in the traffic free centre, selling local wares and tourist items.
Every Thursday there is a colourful weekly market split in 2 halves. Clothes, textiles and traditional Turkish wares on one side, and the other with fruit, vegetables, great choices of olives, herbs and spices.

Marina
Just a few minutes walk along the shoreline from the centre of Yalikvak is the new Marina. The Marina is home to many large yachts and is visited by yachts from all over the world in summer. It has stylish shops and several restaurants and cafes, plus a seaside 2,500 seater Amphitheatre used for open air concerts and fashion shows during the summer months.

Beaches
The main beach in Yalikavak is long and narrow and lined with a few restaurants. It is easy to sit back and not worry where your next drink or meal will come from! Yalikavak's beach is never busy and you won't be sandwhiched in amongst sun loungers. Away from the harbour end of town, the quieter the beach becomes. Yal?kavak is always said to be a little cooler in the summer than other parts of the region due to the gentle offshore breezes. Whereas Bodrum is hot, in all respects, in summer.

Yalikavak is renowned for its superb sunsets and unspoilt shoreline. Its sparkling clean sea is one of the few remaining abodes of the endangered “Monachus Monachus” Mediterranean seals and therefore a protected area. In 2002 Yalikavak Bay was awarded the "Blue Flag" for its clean waters.

“Repeat Customer”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2015

This was my second trip back to the beautiful villa, and from arrival to departure, everything was perfect. We arrived and there was a care package ready for us by Sara, who was only ever a phone call away! The villa was a luxurious as we remembered, with books, games, dvd's for evenings in, although with the weather so perfect we were outside nearly all of the time! The views were as spectacular as we remembered. We had a couple of day trips out to Gümüşlük and Bodrum where we just used the Dolmus to get there, simple, easy and inexpensive way to get around the area. I am very much looking forward to our next trip out there!

“Comfortable stay”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2014

It was a lovely stay in this property as it had a lovely pool, good location, close to the beach club and restaurants. Located in a very secure compound this property is very comfortable and it offers view of yalikavak bay as well as the Greek Islands. A small gate at the entrance of the house would be ideal for young kids. Sara (property manager) is a star of Yalikavak as she was always available to provide any assistance required.

“Beautiful Villa for the perfect relaxing holiday”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2014

From the very start when booking this villa with Annie we knew we were in for a treat! We were handled with such diligence and care (thanks Annie) from the offset and we were keen to get our holiday hats and shades on ready for Mavi Su! It was everything and more than we had anticipated. Such care and attention has been given to the villa that it really felt homely. Each room is decorated with detail and beautifully colour co-ordinated. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, including the bathrooms which were plenty for a 4 bedroom villa (3 showers!). There is everything you need in the kitchen, and the villa owners have also left some books and games if you want to indulge...each and every last detail has been thought of including excellent quality linen and towels for the rooms and pool. Sara helped us with any issue we had and was always quick and attentive. We enjoyed the swimming pool every day, and even commented to each other how it made such a difference to our holiday. The views of the hillside and the mediterranean were incredible from the pool and the villa. The balcony from the rooms on the first floor had seats and sun loungers to enjoy - this was nice if you wanted to escape the family for some alone time. The location in Yalikavak is amazing. After travelling around the area we were more than happy that we had chosen the best spot. It is also on the way to Gumusluk and near some brilliant cafe / restaurant / bars such as Limon (perfect for sunset views) and Narcigegi Cafe (breathtaking views and Turkish breakfast). We hired a car for the full 2 weeks and would recommend doing so. It isn't essential, and we also used taxi's which are very easy to book (takes 10 mins to arrive at the villa) but the freedom of the car enabled us to get out and about more. We booked a car through Annie (Hasan) who was very helpful and easy to speak to. We only made the mistake of filling up the tank and ended up using only half of it - the petrol isn't cheap either... We would recommend Mavi Su to anyone looking for a touch of luxury in the perfect quiet spot for a relaxing holiday. It was simply perfect.

“Gorgeous villa in trendy Yalikavak”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2014

Stayed two weeks at Mavi Su in June with family and had a wonderful time. The villa is very tastefully decorated with every amenity one might need, spacious bedrooms, great patio area and nicely furnished living room. The villa comes with a good sized pool and the compound also provides an olympic sized pool which is hardly ever occupied. The villa has a really nice view of the bay as well. The compound is guarded and parking is also available. Mavi Su is located very close to many beautiful sandy beaches, shopping areas and restaurants. For a non-Turk Yalikavak has all the amenities one might need to find in their own country, from great supermarkets with every British or American product. The Marina is beautiful with a great water park for younger children. 15 minutes drives on the outskirts of Bodrum there is a full sized water park with bigger rides for older children and adults. The villa manager is wonderful and very responsive when needed. We can't wait to go back.

“Mükemmel - Just perfect”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2013

Once again, Annie and Peninsula did not disappoint with this holiday! I stayed in this villa for the final 2 weeks as part of an extended holiday in Yalikavak and it was just the perfect ending. The villa itself is beautiful and although there are some great pictures on Annie's website at Peninsula, this villa definately needs to be seen to be appreciated. The site itself is extremly well maintained by friendly staff with security gates which are manned 24/7 The villa inside is very spacious with split levels and seperate floors. The master bedroom opens out onto a patio that has stunning views over the facing hillside and bay down to the marina. The living area is very comfortable and has TV, satelite etc, and the kitchen is spotless with all utensils available if (unlike myself) you want to cook. The other 3 bedrooms are all generous sizes with ample storage. The seller for me for this villa though is the outdoor space. The pool is beautiful and you can cool off from the hot sun whilst looking out over the bay. The outdoor furniture is comfortable with enough shade to sit outside and remain out of the sun, but also enough space to bake in the sun. This villa is just outside Yalikavak on the Road to Gumusluk, however the dolmus goes past the site entrance so no problems getting around if you dont have a car, although the site itself is quite steep so will definately keep you fit. There is also a large shared pool on the site which is always really quiet as most villas here have their own private pools. If you have never been before, Yalikavak is the most beautiful place, and I have stayed many times, but this villa is a definate must to compliment your holiday.

“Most relaxing holiday, great location”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2013

We stayed for two weeks in Villa Helene, with two children and grandparents. The villa is perfectly located just outside of Yalikavak, and takes in wonderful views. The layout of the villa is great - fantastic for me that my son and daughter didn't have to share rooms... Annie was great in arranging everything and sara was fantastic at the Yalikavak end. We also arranged through Annie to a pick up at the airport so we didn't need to fuss about finding the place then arranged for the car people to meet us at the airport at the end of our holiday. During the break I also stupidly left the car lights on so the battery went flat one day. It was a public holiday, nevertheless the car people were there within the hour... Sara, was also very available during our stay with any minor problems and questions. All up a great 2 weeks!! - thanks so much.

“Yalikavak is a real gem and Villa Helene was ideal”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2013

We have just returned from Villa Helene and have had a truly wonderful time. This is our third visit to Turkey, but the first to the Bodrum Peninsula and the Yalikavak area. We were very pleasantly surprised and impressed with Yalikavak; it has everything. It’s big enough to provide enough to do, but small enough to be friendly and intimate and, critically for us, to remain authentic. From the old harbour to the new marina, from the many lovely restaurants to the beach clubs and their associated jetties and pontoons, we have really enjoyed ourselves. Having a car also meant that we could experience places like Gundogan,Gumusluk and Geris, and next time we’ll explore further. Provisions shopping was easy and varied and the town itself was really pleasant to just walk awhile and enjoy its many little and varied areas. The dolmus service also provides a really good travel option. And, we must mention the breeze that was an almost constant – heavenly! The villa was perfect, in an accessible location, and had everything we needed. It was clean, tidy, and big enough for us not to feel on top of each other. There is a lovely pool (as well as the option of the additional shared pool) and outside sitting areas that really enhanced the experience, from which the views are just stunning! We’ve had many villa holidays abroad and this was one of the best for sure. We’d also like to thank Sara and Peter for their help when called upon, and to Annie at Peninsula for the very efficient booking service.
