Description

Unlike many holiday homes in the Yalikavak area, Leyla's Place was not originally intended for renting. The villa has been furnished and designed for family use and family living, therefore you can't help but notice the 'homely' extras. Designed for daily living outside.

This very spacious stone built villa is not your typical Bodrum holiday villa but an airy house in a quiet location. This is a truly unique house in the Yalikavak area combining generous sized rooms and a traditional feel which is lacking in most other holiday homes. The villa is situated in a peaceful location but within a very short distance of restaurants, shops, beach and harbour in lively Yalikavak. Although the villa can sleep 6 in the main house, it is the perfect honeymoon spot or couples location for a really private retreat. And with the guest suite in use, sleeping 2, the ideal family venue for reunions or groups of friends.

SWIMMING POOL: There is a beautiful private swimming pool set in the gardens of the villa. There are sunbeds and large comfortable cushions on the terraced area surrounding the pool and again, this area benefits from the shade under a pergola. Swimming towels are provided and the pool is cleaned daily.

TERRACES & BALCONIES

There's a spacious terrace around the pool, which is flanked by the backdrop of the hillside and provides stunning views across the valley to Gokcebel, Yalikavak and the sea.

Two large shaded balconies are perfect for alfresco lunches/dinners and enjoying aperitifs in the evening watching the sunset. Why not also enjoy dinner on the ground terrace with its BBQ.

VIEWS & GARDENS

Private balconies on two levels provide wonderful views over Gokcebel village, Yalikavak bay and Leyla's Place gardens. The house is set in extensive grounds in citrus, fig and olive gardens. Organic vegetables including aubergines, onions, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, watermelons are grown and the gardener will provide you with any of the above if you wish.

BBQ

If you want to barbeque, check with Aytekin the caretaker, as it poses a considerable fire risk in unsuitable weather. He will be able to advise you. He is also an expert at setting up the barbeque for you, should you need some help.

BEACHES

The beaches and coves around Yalikavak and Gundoğan are within a 10/15 minute drive from the villa. The larger sandy beaches on the south side of the Peninsula are all within a 25 minute drive. Gümüşlük with lagoon like swimming and great snorkeling is a 20/25 minute drive away.

Location description from manager

The Turkish Aegean Coast region

HE BODRUM PENINSULA - AEGEAN COAST
On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.

History
Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artifacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geriş), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.

Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Bodrum
Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.

Yalikavak

GOKCEBEL This secluded and exceptionally tranquil villa is situated on the outskirts of the delightful traditional village of Upper Gokcebel. The tiny and unspoilt village has a single village shop and a once weekly street market.

YALIKAVAK
2km away is the beach-side town of Yalikavak where there are plenty of shops, a thriving market every Thursday and a large selection of restaurants and cafes. Local specialities include kebabs, fresh fish and other traditional Turkish dishes. Yalikavak also boasts a newly developed marina which includes a further range of modern shops and restaurants, in contrast to the traditional feel of Yalikavak. There are two large supermarkets situated between the villa and Yalikavak where you can find everything you need.

BODRUM
Bodrum, one of the most popular tourist towns in Turkey is only 15km away from the villa and can be accessed easily by car or local buses (which run until 4-5 am). Bodrum is a lively, vibrant sea-side town and is particularly picturesque as it is centred around a beautiful castle. It is equally enjoyable and worthy of a visit during the daytime and at night, as it offers a large selection of shops, a variety of restaurants, lively bars and discos including the legendary Halikarnas disco, all of which are open until the early hours of the morning. Bodrum also has a very smart marina where restaurants, bars and designer shops are in abundance.

“Highly recommended”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2015

We have stayed at Leyla’s Place for the last four years, with a minimum stay of 10 days, having always enjoyed our holidays there. This year we booked our holiday via Annie at Peninsula Villas, for ten days in July. The booking and payment process was straightforward. Leyla’s Place is located between Yalikavak and Gundogan. It is in a beautiful position, on a hillside, overlooking Yalikavak - with amazing sea views and sunsets! From the villa, we have visited Ephesus on a day trip, explored some of the closer Greek Islands and this year we spent three days in Istanbul before flying down to Milas and on to the Villa. Although off the beaten track, the villa is approached along an unmade road which is easy to negotiate. It is only a short drive to the local supermarkets and bakery. The house itself is a large multi-level traditional stone family villa with all amenities and everything you would need for a wonderful self-catering holiday. There is a well equipped kitchen, a large homely furnished living area and comfortable bedrooms, with fans and some air conditioning. We enjoyed meals on the veranda, overlooking the beautiful gardens and the surrounding landscape. Our days were spent relaxing by the well maintained pool with a plethora of loungers, cushions, a hammock and sufficient shade to avoid the mid-day heat. The caretaker, Aytekin, was friendly, courteous and always helpful; providing us with fresh fruit and vegetables from the villa’s gardens and offering to prepare a BBQ. His wife cooks delicious local meals on request for a small fee. Yalikavak is a small town with lots of restaurants, serving traditional food. It has a lovely old harbour and a new Palmarina with a large selection of designer shops, bars and restaurants. There is a local, vibrant market on Thursdays. We had a wonderful holiday and couldn’t fault anything. We plan to book again for 2016, but for a longer period next time.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words and good to know you wish to return to Leyla's Place once again. We know the villa and area are becoming your 'second home' and we look forward to welcoming you back to it in 2016!
