Location description from manager

The Turkish Aegean Coast region

The Bodrum Peninsula - Aegean coast

On the Bodrum Peninsula buildings are not permitted to be built more than 2 stories high, and there are no buildings higher than 3 stories in the whole Peninsula. This tends to make the area look particularly attractive. Most of the buildings are white washed cubes, similar to those in the Greek Islands. This is because this part of Turkey used to belong to Greece and some of the Greek Islands used to belong to Turkey. As you can imagine, there is a lot of history around the area.

Archaeological excavations have established that human habitation in the Yalikavak area began in around 2000BC, and there are ruins and artefacts from the Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The historic sites such as Sandima, Pasanda (Geris), Kandiba and Termil (Dirmil/Gökçebel) attract visitors from all over the world. Yalikavak is famous for the numerous windmills found in the vicinity. The winds, that until recently turned the vanes of these working windmills, now fill the sails of boats and windsurfs. Another “typical” feature found in abundance here are domed water cisterns which, in the past, were used in times of drought and are now being adapted for artistic and cultural uses.

Ferry trips to the Greek island of Kos can be made from Bodrum

Further afield you can visit Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, and the temple of Apollo at Didim.

Yalikavak, 18 km away from Bodrum centre on the north western tip of the Bodrum Peninsula, has grown in size over recent years, but remains still very much a place where the locals welcome holiday makers with open arms. The permanent inhabitants of Yalikavak number around 6,800 people.

Yalikavak is becoming ever more popular as an alternative resort to Bodrum. The small harbour is surrounded by restaurants and bars, and while there is the occasional disco bar, the general atmosphere is quiet, unhurried and relaxed, yet further along the shoreline is a new sophisticated Marina.

Approaching Yalikavak from Bodrum you cannot help but notice the stunning panoramic view of Yalikavak Bay. This fertile coastal region is ideal for sailing and all water sports and attracts many foreign yachts to the Marina and old harbour that once sheltered mainly fishing boats.

Yalikavak still supports a thriving fishing industry and the restaurants around the picturesque harbour display a wide selection of fresh fish every day. The town is known for its excellent seafood restaurants - try Sait, you won't be disappointed.

Yalikavak has a huge selection of restaurants to suit all tastes.

There are many shops in the traffic free centre, selling local wares and tourist items.

Every Thursday there is a colourful weekly market split in 2 halves. Clothes, textiles and traditional Turkish wares on one side, and the other with fruit, vegetables, great choices of olives, herbs and spices.

Just a few minutes walk along the shoreline from the centre of Yalikvak is the new Marina. The Marina is home to many large yachts and is visited by yachts from all over the world in summer. It has stylish shops and several restaurants and cafes, plus a seaside 2,500 seater Amphitheatre used for open air concerts and fashion shows during the summer months. In 2012 the new Billionaire night club opened, together with other smart restaurants.

The main beach in Yalikavak is long and narrow and lined with a few restaurants. It is easy to sit back and not worry where your next drink or meal will come from! Yalikavak's beach is never busy and you won't be sandwhiched in amongst sun loungers. Away from the harbour end of town, the quieter the beach becomes. Yalikavak is always said to be a little cooler in the summer than other parts of the region due to the gentle offshore breezes. Whereas Bodrum is hot, in all respects, in summer.

Yalikavak is renowned for its superb sunsets and unspoilt shoreline. Its sparkling clean sea is one of the few remaining abodes of the endangered “Monachus Monachus” Mediterranean seals and therefore a protected area. In 2002 Yalikavak Bay was awarded the "Blue Flag" for its clean waters.

“Lovely villa with great views”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2015

Our group of 3 couples stayed at Lazy Dayz for 2 weeks. The accommodation is ideal, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms which is not easy to find. The villa is well equipped and nicely furnished. The outside space is exceptionally good with plenty of shady seating areas and a nice pool. There are great views over the bay. We had a few issues with water pressure but Sara, the local manager, was extremely efficient and helpful and got the problem resolved. Although the area is more built up than we expected, the road is quiet and it is only a few minutes drive into Yalikavak. There are plenty of restaurants and beach clubs within easy reach. We booked through a very helpful Annie at Peninsular Villas and would happily do so again.

“Beautiful views and great service”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2015

We have just returned from an amazing three week stay at the Lazy Dayz villa in Yalikavak. Firstly, booking with Penninsula Villas was an absolutely seemless process and were very reassuring with regards to handling the booking and payments. I have been caught out before on a villa scam, but Annie from Pennisula went out of her way to ensure I felt secure with the booking. I can highly recommend them, They kept in touch, sent contracts, confirmed payments and even sent us a full pack of info before we arrived on the area, restaurants etc - really excellent service. We were introduced to Sara who looks after the villa in Turkey. She not only emailed me before our arrival, but met us in her car just outside the village and we followed her to the villa. She had supplied water, bread and milk etc. and was on call for the entire time to help us with boat trips, any issues we had etc. She was great! On to the villa - it was beautiful! The views were spectacular and I am still missing them. The furnishings inside and outside the villa were of very good quality and contemporary. Apart from a few issues with water pressure (but everything else more than made up for this niggle), it was pretty perfect!

“Lazy Dayz epitomises all that is wonderful about the Bodrum peninsula”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2015

This is our 3rd consecutive visit to this part of Turkey and our 2nd to this villa, I think that probably tells you all you need to know! For us, Yalikavak and the surrounding area simply has everything. Great food, hospitable hosts wherever you go, the climate, the views, and much more. We love it here and the villa is just wonderful - if we can, we'll be back again. Thanks to Annie and Ian for the booking efficiency and to Sara out n Yali for the fantastic support if you need it.

“Family friendly, relaxing and modern villa”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2015

We loved the Lazy Dayz villa in Yalikavik. It was spacious, modern and well set up for families with young children. The different levels offered some privacy and lots of shade (and sun if you wanted it!). The villa itself was well maintained and the villa manager was extremely helpful whenever we needed assistance. This is the perfect villa for a trip where you just want to lounge by the pool and relax. The only draw back is that it is not walking distance to local shops/restaurants especially if you have small children. We ended up needing to take minibuses whenever we left to allow for space for multiple adults and carseats. A rental car (or multiple rental cars) is suggested.

Reviewed 13 Sep 2014

Our extended family of 6 have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Turkey and indeed Yalikavak made all the better by our owners hospitality, the seemless booking process and the villa itself which was everything we hoped for and more. Everything promised was delivered- we were met on time at the airport and driven to our villa. Upon arrival at the home we were greeted and shown round by your delightful agent despite our late flight. She remained on hand thereafter to assist us which was an added benefit knowing that she would be there if required. The villa itself was beautiful, immaculately clean and modern with everything to hand including towels, games and videos- just in case!! It was great to have a 'welcome pack' with all the basics particularly after a long journey so tea, coffee and something for breakfast was perfect particularly if you arrive late like we did. The internet proved to be a bit hit and miss but to be honest it worked in our favour with 4 people in the younger generation bracket as it meant we enjoyed each others company a little better!! I have to say that we have used villas a lot but this was, without doubt, our favourite- there is NOTHING for the owners to improve on- they have got everything spot on. The only issue for us is that if we continue to heep such praise on this villa( like we must) then our chances of being able to go back may be limited- what more can we say!!

“Lovely villa, great town”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2014

This was our second time in Yalikavak and we were certainly not disappointed. Indeed we are considering a return again next year because we enjoy it so much. Yalikavak is a multi-dimensional town and that is what tips the balance for us. From the 'swish' of the stunning marina to the numerous beach jetties, from the buzzing traditional centre, with its restaurants and shops, to the more sedate town square, and from the warm and friendly people to the continuously stunning views, Yalikavak should be on anyone's visit list. Lazy Dayz is a really lovely villa in a good location, though you'll still need a hire car, as you do in many overseas holiday villa locations. The numerous outside seating areas, the amazing views, and the relatively short walk to the little cove are what made it stand out for us and our two teenage children. The villa has loads of space and has everything you need to enjoy two weeks in the sun. It's very well equipped throughout and Sara, the local contact for a number of properties, dealt brilliantly with any issues. Yes, the villa could do with a bit of an upgrade in a couple of the downstairs areas, but that doesn't detract from everything that's good about it and we, for one, would certainly return. Due to the configuration across three levels, it is probably best suited to adults and teenagers, and not for very young children or anyone with any mobility issues. Great holiday, we were sad to leave it behind!

“Fabulous holiday villa!”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2014

Six of us stayed in this villa in July 2014 - my husband, myself, our three children (aged 11, 10 and 6) and my mother-in-law. There was plenty of room for all of us and lots of storage space so we didn't have to live out of our suitcases. The house has everything you need and Sara (the local property manager) is available for assistance and advice whenever you need her. The location is great - not too far from Yalikavak center, up on a hill with a great view and no traffic. Would definitely stay here again on a return visit.

“Excellent quality all round and a view to die for!”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2013

Absolutely 5 Star from start to finish. A very safe, reliable, systematic method of reservation/payment/deposit collection etc. Annie in Admin UK has lived in Turkey so has first hand experience. Is very professional but friendly and approachable and can answer all questions. If you have car hire,on arrival in resort you are met by one of the Team (Sara, Jenny or Peter) who will take you to the villa, show you around and leave a welcome pack. Great for us as we arrived in the dark and the villa would have been difficult to find. They are always just a phone call away if help is needed or any maintenance needs attending to. The villa is beautifully furnished throughout. New, modern, exceptionally clean and in good working order. Every room has its own large terrace with a high standard of furniture on each and a fantastic view of the sea, resort, coastline, islands depending on which way you look and can watch the boats/ yachts sailing past in the distance to/from the new Marina. So peaceful and relaxing. The pool and surrounding terraces/garden are exceptionally well furnished and maintained. It really made our holiday relaxing around the pool with choice of seating all with a stunning view. The resort is new and growing but at the moment still has charm, small central area with restaurants, bazaar, market etc. Plenty of good quality fish restaurants towards the new marina and some designer shops. Reasonable supermarkets. In our opinion, a car is needed as the villa is on the edge of the town, built on a mountainside, so with the hill and distance it would be difficult to walk around. Bodrum is only a 30 minute drive and worth visiting. The only thing I would point out is that the description states "several steps" from the road to villa entrance. There are 32 steep stone steps. Going down is easier than up! Bearing in mind the villa is on 3 levels. So from leaving the car to the villa, up to master bedroom to get changed and down to villa pool was 32 down, 16 up, 32 down. You do the math! As there were only 2 of us we decided not to use the master bedroom and were very happy in one of the bedrooms leading straight out to the pool. Besides the unplanned exercise, we enjoyed this villa and location so much we have already booked to go back again in Oct 2013 and June 2014.

Thank you for your positive review on Lazy Dayz and Peninsulavillacare's services, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and everything was to your liking. We are so delighted you have booked to return again in 2013 and in 2014. We look forward to welcoming you back in October. Annie - Peninsula villas -

“A little taste of heaven”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2013

We have stayed in Yalikavak many times over the past 5 years, but Lazy is Dayz is far and above the best villa we have chosen to stay in so far. Peninsula Villa Care are also a fantastic letting agent in terms of their communication and after sales/support. Booking a holiday independently from a tour operator can be stressful, with often very little comeback once you have booked and paid, however we have found Peninsula to be extremely personable and helpful at all times – so much so we have booked to go back through them for the summer and will almost definitely book again next year. Annie did really go out of her away to accommodate us at all times. If you want a central location with the best in stunning Yalikavak views, close to all amenities, then the location of Lazy Dayz cannot be beaten. There are several balconies and terraces all with really comfortable and clean furniture where you can sit and chill and see the whole of Yalikavak across the bay including the new marina development and fantastic yachts coming in and out. Because of its location close to the sea, you also get a very gentle (and welcome) breeze throughout the hot afternoons whilst lying round the pool. It’s a very peaceful location and a short walk out of the garden passed the communal pool (very clean) down the hill brings you to a private jetty with free sun loungers which has access onto a quiet and secluded beach. The walk back up definitely isn’t for the fainthearted, but will keep you fit though , however this is only to be expected for this area of the coastline!! Inside the villa, it is extremely clean, bright, fairly modern and well equipped with the most beautiful top floor bedroom with en-suite that has terraces and patios on 2 sides to step out onto – fantastic with a glass of wine in the evening to watch the world go by. The beds are all extremely comfortable – which you often don’t get in all areas of Europe – and the bedrooms themselves are fitted to the standard of a really good quality British boutique hotel – again not what you can always expect. I would say lots of thought and effort has gone into making this a very luxurious and comfortable holiday by the owner – which has been respected and looked after by previous guests and the villa management company. We would not hesitate to recommend both the villa and Peninsula to other holiday seekers and are really looking forward to our return. Thanks also to Annie and Ian for their input – fantastic people.
