The Island of Gozo region
Like most peaceful islands Gozo is dimunitive -- 14 km by 6.5 km at best, 67 square kiloetres in all -- with a population of around 30,000. The bathing and diving are excellent, and the walks are splendid; as Edward Lear said in 1866, 'Gozo's coast scenery may truly be called pomskizillious and grophibberous, being as no words can describe its magnificence'.
Gozo's magic stems from being outside the world it has hitherto so successfully avoided becoming a part of. See it soon.
Xewkija is famous for its contemporary parish church to St.John the Baptist, known simply as 'the Rotunda'. Not only does it dominate the village, it dominates the entire island. The village with its population fewer than 3,000 has an eccentrically suburban air for an agricultural community. Men on ancient lilac-colored vespas roar noisily through the twisting, medieval streets wearing soup-bowl helmets and shot guns slung across their backs; young boys goad a donkey and cart through the main square; a handful of people too old to work the fields sit beside their bamboo-slatted front doors awaiting the cool of the day, while tourists gawp at their cathedral-sized church.
The pebbly beach at Mgarr ix-Xini (meaning 'the galley's landing place' is about 2km away. The road is not for the drunk or fainthearted. The swimming in the small fjord at the bottom of the steep single track is clean and suitable for children, offering good diving and snorkelling.

I've planned this vacation since 1 year ago with my extended family, a party of 6 adults and two young boys of 9 and 12. the farm house is great, a big bedroom for each couple, 3 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a wondeful garden with pool. we had very much fun during the sunny afternoons and enjoyed fabulous dinner on the outside terrace. the owner was very kind with us and helpful for every need. in the house you could find a little island guide that provides information about shops, beaches, restaurants and other leisure. Gozo is a tiny and stunning island, very simple to explore, with little villages, spectacular churches and breathtaking lanscapes. I suggest this experience to everyone who loves sun, peace and relax.
