For the cooler months we have gas heaters for the lounge/dining room and each of the bedrooms. As parents of twins our farmhouse has a wealth of equipment including two travel cots, two high chairs, toys and a push chair. We also have a blender which could be made available if required. Following feedback from our guests, we have installed safety gates around the various stone staircases of the farmhouse to prevent accidents on the stairs.

The beauty of our farmhouse is the many outside areas including the roof top pool, sun terrace, central courtyard and a further sun terrace on the back of the lounge room, so there is always somewhere to enjoy the sun (or shade) as the day progresses. There is a plenty of outdoor furniture for you to take advantage of all these outdoor spaces. Our roof top pool is 5 x 3m in size with a bench running along one side - although small it is perfect for cooling off or sitting on the bench reading. The Island of Gozo region

Within a short distance of Xaghra (nowhere is more than 20 minutes away!) there are a wealth of things to see and do. You can while away your days at the beaches including Ramla Bay (the longest, sandiest beach on Malta), Hondoq (a mix of beach and rock swimming) and Marsalforn (mostly swimming off the rocks). Of historical significance is Victoria, the capital city of Gozo with its walled citadel or you can visit the fishing villages of Marsalforn and Xlendi to sample their many restaurants and simply watch the world go by.

For the more adventurous there are a wealth of dive schools which offer some excellent diving - not so many fish but you can go cave or wreck diving or there's the blue hole at Dwejra which is a really special dive. For those who like walking there are plenty of coastal walks to try and if you want to be really adventurous you could try cycling although the quality of the roads can make this a bit of a challenge.

From May through to September you will tend to get good summer weather with the temperatures in the mid 20s rising to the high 30s at the height of summer in August. Outside of these times the weather can be a little changeable and if it rains it can be very impressive - we're talking flooding and rivers of water running down the streets. Generally though even if it's not warm enough to sunbathe you will get clear, sun-kissed days.

The summer signals the start of the 'festa' season - village feasts characterised by their fireworks (day and night.!) and brightly lit churches and streets. Whilst you can often view the fireworks from the roof terrace it is well worth going to the actual village to see the whole event but be warned the fireworks are very loud!!

Xaghra is one of Gozo's larger villages and is well supplied with restaurants, bars, supermarkets and bakeries. In addition Xaghra has a number of historical sites, including the Ggantija Temples (a neolithic temple older than Stonehenge), all within walking distance of our farmhouse.

"Beautiful farmhouse, perfect for young children"

My husband and I stayed here for a week at the end of September with our 2 year old son and were joined by our in-laws for part of the week. The farmhouse is ideally located just 5-10 minutes walk from the square in Xaghra where there are some lovely cafes and restaurants (we had a great meal at Oleander). The farmhouse itself is clean, has a lovely pool on the roof and a beautiful courtyard for eating meals in the evening. It is ideal if you have a young child as all the stairs are gated, there a some small steps into the pool which our toddler loved sitting on and splashing his feet in the pool from, lots of toys/highchair/buggy/travel cot/childrens bowls/spoons etc - everything you need for a young child. Apart from a cockerel who likes to crow the area is quiet during the evening and night. We hired a car so Xaghra is a good location to explore the island of Gozo from, and we were always able to park right outside the farmhouse. If you want a relaxing stay in a traditional farmhouse with the convenience of being able to walk to shops/restaurants then I would highly recommend Dar Rahal, and if you have a toddler then it is a must! Thanks for a lovely stay.

Thank-you for your lovely review, we're delighted you and your family, especially your toddler, enjoyed our farmhouse and all its facilities and toys! Traveling light has always been a must for us as a family and we've tried to think about that in what we offer our guests at the farmhouse so we're glad it's hit the mark. I hope we can welcome you back to Gozo again in the future.

"Fantastic place to stay for a relaxing holiday"

Booking was straightforward and the place was exactly as described. Rachel was very helpful. We loved the patio area and had lots of lovely al fresco lunches there. Pool was great for the kids to splash about in and for us all to cool off when we got too hot. We enjoyed spotting the lizards and geckos and all said we'd love to return again. The welcome pack was great and the Kerrygold butter a nice touch! The kitchen was very well equipped including store-cupboard staples. All the info and tips were spot on, I think we visited every location suggested and tried most of the restaurants. Everywhere was accessible from Xaghra. Gozo is a fab place for a really relaxing holiday especially if you like swimming or snorkeling and this farmhouse certainly added to the overall experience. Would recommend highly either for a family or group of friends.

Thank-you for your very complimentary review. I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay at our farmhouse and found everything to be as expected. It's always good to hear that the welcome pack and additional information provided is of use too. I hope we can welcome you and your family back to Gozo and our farmhouse again in the future.

"Beautiful old farmhouse"

Dar Rahal is a lovely old farmhouse with all modern facilities, including new washing machine and hot water system. The courtyard setting is still magical. Unfortunately during our stay, Xaghra was undergoing major maintenance work to its village centre. This in no way affected Dar Rahal itself but it was something of a disappointment. This was our second visit to the house and our fifth to Gozo.

Thank-you for your kind review of our farmhouse, we were delighted to welcome you back. Like you we are very disappointed in the state of Xaghra Square and hope this is returned to its former glory soon. Whilst not ideal it does provide an opportunity to explore Gozo in search of bars and restaurants set around a typical Gozitan Square - we would particularly recommend Qala for this.

"Great place for families"

This farm house is a great place for children. We had three adults and three children, 1.5 years to 8 years old. There was plenty of room for all of us and everything you need for children is already there...a crib, high chair, toys, unbreakable dishes. Having said that, it the farm house had loads of personality. It is as beautiful as the pictures. The only negatives we could come up with about our trip have nothing to do with this property: frequent gun shots from the bird hunters and early morning roosters. You aren't going to escape those anywhere on Gozo. Other than that, we truly enjoyed the island's laid back feeling.

We're so pleased you guys had a great stay and found the farmhouse to be suitably equipped for you all. Thank-you for your lovely review and wonderful feedback and I hope we can welcome you back to our farmhouse again in the future. I agree with you on the early morning noises - there's always something and as you say, can't really be avoided on such a small island. All the more reason to partake of an afternoon siesta!

"What a beautiful place!"

We spent 2 weeks with our two kids in Dar Rahal and enjoyed every moment there. The house itself is beautiful, spacious, full of character, well-equipped. The small pool is really a plus to help cooling in hot summer days! Everything went well from the first contacts with Rachel, to contract and arrival on site (detailed information to get there safely, pick up of the keys etc...). We also appreciated very much the welcome pack (no need to worry where to shop for a decent breakfast when arriving late :-)). Gozo being quite small, it's easy to go anywhere from Xaghra, even farthest beaches are not more than 15-20 min drive from the house. We preferred above all Dwerja Bay for gorgeous swim, snorkelling in a quiet and amazing scenary. We recommend this place to anyone seeking a relaxing and typical place for their holidays.

Thank-you for your glowing review. We're glad you had an enjoyable time at our farmhouse and found it to be perfect for your needs. Thank-you also for your feedback with regard to the transfer process, directions and getting keys - it's always good to hear that these are hitting the mark. I'm pleased you enjoyed the welcome pack too. I hope we can welcome you back again in the future.

"Fantastic relaxing stay"

Stayed at Dar Rahal for a week in July... Beautiful farmhouse in a lovely village with some great restaurants and an excellent supermarket within walking distance. The house has nicely decorated rooms, lovely courtyard and we all enjoyed having the rooftop pool. Thanks for fantastic week.

"Peaceful, well equipped farmhouse in easy walking distance of a lovely Gozitan town."

This traditional farmhouse is extremely spacious with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, a large living area ( which we rarely used due to being outside in the courtyard) , well equipped kitchen, several sunbathing areas, a beautiful courtyard (ideal for eating) and a small pool which was ideal to cool off in. It is located a ten minute walk from Xagrah which has a great selection of restaurants, coffee shops, bakery and supermarkets. We particularly enjoyed lunch at Rubbles bar and a lovely early dinner at the atmospheric Tal Furnar. The food at Oleander was nice but, even by Maltese standards, the service was "patchy". The communication we had with Rachel, the owner, was first class including great information about what there was to do and see, where and what to eat, accurate directions and even a late email telling us about local Festas which were happening whilst we were at the property. We have fallen for the laid back style of Gozo, the accessibility of everything, the wonderful food and wine and the lovely people...we will be back.

Thank-you for your lovely review. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and the facilities that our farmhouse had to offer. We think Xaghra is the best village in Gozo in terms of the amenities that are available within walking distance of our farmhouse and it sounds like you certainly made use of them. We hope we can welcome you back again in the future.
