The East Anglia region
The Catherderal city of Norwich is only 7 miles away and the sandy beaches of the east coast can be found at Sea Palling, Cromer, Winterton-On-Sea, and Great Yarmouth, the nearest only 25 minutes by car.
Belaugh is a small hamlet in a conservation area within the Norfolk broads situated between the broadland villages of Wroxham and Coltishall.
An ideal setting for those that are wishing to enjoy a peaceful location with bird watching, cycling, walking, boating, and fishing opportunities. Cycling and walking trail details and information can be obtained from the tourist information centre in Wroxham. Also in Wroxham is a good choice of day boat hire centres for those wishing to explore the Rivers Bure and Ant and nearby broads.
Wroxham, known as the Capital of the Broads, is 3-4 minutes drive by car with Roys of Wroxham, "the worlds biggest village store", with waterside cafes, restaurants, shops, the Bure Valley Steam Railway, mainline train station into Norwich, several banks, a butchers, fresh fish shop and a decent fishing tackle shop. All this is supported by ample free parking. Visitors of all ages will also enjoy a visit to Wroxham Barns, where giftware, country foods, rose and plant centre, junior farm and funfair as well as craft studios and restaurant combine in one location. Why not take the children to BeWILDerwood Adventure Park with its tree houses, zip wires, jungle bridges and boat trips, which all combined makes a great day.
In the opposite direction to Wroxham is Coltishall. A very pleasant countryside walk, will take you on the Belaugh to Coltishall footpath, through the meadow adjacent to the river, where you will find a village shop and several pubs - two of which offer undoubtably the best eating within the broads. Take a look at the footpath here: www.coltishall.org.uk/?page=10924
The seaside resorts of Great Yarmouth, Cromer, Sea Palling, Sheringham and Winterton on Sea offer sandy beaches and family entertainment. Sheringham also has a National Trust parkland with over 700 acres where you can enjoy walking and cycling and maybe finish off with a cream tea in the visitors centre.
Alternatively, spend a day in the fine city of Norwich, 8 miles, with its Norman cathedral, castle, museums, and theatres. Norwich also offers a vast array of cafes and shops, and it boasts open air markets. National Trust properties well worth visiting are Felbrigg Hall and Blicking Hall.
Golf can be found at Sprowston Hall.

"Fantastic holiday home, beautiful peaceful setting."
A really beautiful property, very well maintained, with everything you need to make a perfect holiday. It is like staying in a 5* hotel, all modern and uptodate facilities. Great location only five minutes by car to local shops and set in the middle of the Norfolk Broads lots of attractions within easy distance. The conservatory overlooking the river is just so lovely and restful, watching the boats and wildlife. We hope to return again next year.
Thanks for taking the time to write this review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the location and were able to relax and have a restful holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back next year.

"A most relaxing holiday!"
if you are seeking a quiet base for a week in Norfolk with access to the river and plenty of space for a larger group, then Kareela is ideal. The house is very clean with good linen and fluffy towels provided, and sparkling bathrooms and kitchen. It is very well equipped to meet the needs of a family, both for entertainment and for day to day living. It is set in a quiet village away from the noise of traffic and busy roads and has a large garden down to the river. Wroxham and Coltishall are readily accessible by boat or by car, and there is plenty to see and do in the local area. The owners ensure that they are in contact with you before and after the visit, and are available during your stay should you need them. A daily delivered newspaper is a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend Kareela to friends and family, and would jump at the chance to stay there again should we travel to Norfolk in the future!
Thank you for your kind comments, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Kareela and that everything was to your satisfaction. We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

Beautiful house, comfortable, clean, relaxing, everything supplied that you need for a worry-free holiday. Well maintained garden, tremendous for fishing and room for a hired boat. Even a daily newspaper delivered, milk and wine for our arrival. Absolutely brilliant. Being able to take our three little dogs was the icing on the cake. Best holiday we have ever had. Thank you Sian and Rob for letting us share your 'home'.
Thank you for the great review and we are so pleased you found the house to your liking. Sounds like the fishing came up trumps and we are glad you liked the newspaper delivered each day. We look forward to welcoming you back in future and very much appreciate you taking the time to write your review. Thank you very much.

"A Real Gem"
We stayed at Kareela for a week in June/July, booking was easy, we found the house easy to find adequate parking for 2 cars. The property was very well equipped and has something for all the family. The house was very clean, spacious and had everything you would need and more – great kitchen, TV's in all bedrooms, and a lovely garden . The location is perfect with a beautiful setting right on the river and not too far to drive for anywhere around the Norfolk area We visited the Recruiting Sergeant at Horstead one of the recommended pubs – Fantastic Food. Booking recommended I would highly recommend this property and would definitely return again one day. Many Thanks to Rob and Sian

"The perfect place to relax, unwind and explore the broads"
The house and facilities are excellent. The location is a prime spot for exploring the rest of the broads, plus the fishing is not too bad at the bottom of the garden. If you want somewhere to stay, where you can take the family/dogs in a house that has most amenities that you could think of, then you would be extremely hard pressed to beat Kareela.
Thank you for your kind comments. We are so pleased that you found the house and facilities excellent and look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Many thanks

"Peaceful, relaxing home from home."
Kareela is a perfect, peaceful get away. Our party, consisting of two families with teenagers, grandma and 2 dogs, all enjoyed staying in this lovely well appointed house. The garden is great for relaxing by the river and secure so the dogs could run around. It is open to the river which may be an issue for those with small children, but we loved it. The house is just half an hour from Norfolk's gorgeous sandy beaches with a short stroll through woodland and fields (NB. there are a couple of stiles) to the small village of Coltishall - perfect for an evening drink in the pubs by the river. There are shops and restaurants/takeaways 5 minutes drive in Wroxham. The driveway is a little steep but I had no problems with it.
Thank you very much for your review, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back to Kareela soon.

"Peaceful, relaxing, and extremely comfortable riverside retreat"
As retired couple with a dog we really appreciated being able to book a mid-week to mid-week stay so that we could be joined for a long weekend by our son, daughter-in-law and their16 month old daughter. We wanted a peaceful riverside location to enjoy some fishing before the close season, but be reasonably close to shops, other amenities and attractions that the area has to offer. As we know the Broads area very well, we knew that this house in Belaugh would meet our requirements, being only a few minutes drive from either the busy centre of Wroxham or the Norwich park & ride facility for at Sprowston and perhaps only 25 minutes or so from the coast. What we didn't know, other than suggested from the info on the web-site, was the quality of accommodation provided by Kareela; this was absolutely first-class and considerably exceeded our expectations. It was cosy and warmly welcoming - tea, coffee, milk & sugar available on arrival was a nice touch, the wine in the fridge a very nice surprise and the complimentary daily newspaper showed that the owner's cared about their guests. The house & garden were very 'dog friendly' - a bowl of water was available outside the conservatory doors - and a number of options for dog-walking from the lanes locally to a gentle stroll across the meadows to Coltishall. We liked the arrangement of the accommodation in the house; the downstairs bedroom, shower room and separate toilet making it attractive for limited mobility guests to avoid the stairs should they wish. Communication with the owners prior to our stay was excellent, and no question or request was too trivial for them to respond to. Rob was particularly tolerant with questions about fishing matters, and while numerous fish were caught during the week including the pike that was the real reason my son really came for the weekend, the big ones eluded us (lack of skill, not lack of advice!). The weather was kind to us all week and so we were outdoors, or in the conservatory, for much of the time; this meant we did not need to resort to the many indoor entertainment options that would be of real value on rainy days - the many and varied board games, the library of DVD programmes, the Xbox and its library of games, the TV (BT vision) and of course the free WiFi. It was a real pleasure to see (and hear), whilst out dog-walking or fishing: chaffinches, goldfinches, pheasants, kingfishers, various geese and a cormorant; a real antidote to suburban life. The only very slight issue was the narrowness of the road on which the house is situated - it really is a single track road - fortunately it is used only by those living in the hamlet and not many stand-offs occurred. The Visitor information book was comprehensive and helpful; we took advantage of some of the recommendations such as the beach at Waxham and the very dog friendly 'Recruiting Sergeant' in Horstead. For us, though, no visit to Wroxham/Hoveton is complete without: shopping in Roys, buying Norfolk smoked bacon at Massingham Bros butchers, a visit to the tackle shop and fish and chips from Ken's by the Bridge. In summary, full marks all round. No hesitation in recommending this to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay in extremely comfortable surroundings and wanting a spot of very convenient fishing. We will definitely be planning a return and know that to secure our favoured time early booking will be essential.
We are delighted to hear you had such an enjoyable week and really pleased that you also had some nice weather to enjoy the outdoors. Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review and we look forward to welcoming you back anytime soon. Thank you
