Description

The Hayloft at the Manor House Stables is spacious yet cosy and provides a lovely romantic retreat. The Grade II Listed stables were restored in 2008 using eco-friendly materials and traditional methods. Natural insulation, cast iron radiators and a wood burning stove mean that the accommodation is lovely and warm throughout the winter.

The Hayloft is a perfect retreat for two but there is sleeping space for 2 more in an unusual box bed in the living area (both adults and children love it!). Other features include a luxury bathroom with a copper spa bath and a shower and small sauna. There is a Rangemaster cooker in the well-equipped kitchen and a very unusual wooden fridge! A small private garden is situated at the bottom of the outside staircase with wooden furniture, a garden swing and barbeque set.

We aim to provide a special stay for our guests - from fresh flowers, a welcome hamper, vegetables from the garden (or farm shop), freshly-baked bread, sausages, wine, chocolates, luxury toiletries and much more. We also offer a home-made 'first night meal' for just £15 per person consisting of roast vegetables and Lincolnshire sausages followed by apple crumble and cream. Please book this meal when booking the accommodation.

We also run courses on-site which you are very welcome to attend (prior booking only) or we can arrange a course just for you - see our website for more detail. Choose between bread, chocolate or jam making, or crochet, knitting or making natural bath & beauty products. We were the Select Lincolnshire Award winners for our Teaching in 2016.

The Manor House Stables is ideally located in the heart of rural LIncolnshire within driving distance of the Wolds, Coast and Fens. The historic city of LIncoln is only 20 minutes drive away and the lovely Victorian town of Woodhall Spa is just 4 miles away. The Stables is situated at the edge of the small village of Martin which has both a pub (which serves lovely food) and shop with P.O. within 5 - 7 minutes walking distance.

The nearest restaurant town is Woodhall Spa where you will find shops, tearooms, restaurants, Tourist Information Centre, a lovely little 'Cottage Museum' and a wealth of history ranging from the unique Petwood Hotel to the iconic 'Kinema in the Woods' - an old-fashioned cinema showing up-to- date films. Woodhall was an famous for its Spa in Victorian and Edwardian times and then became an important centre in the 2nd World War as the Petwood became the Officer's Mess for the now famous 'Dambusters'.

We have been awarded the Gold Award by Enjoy England and Gold in the Green Tourism Business Scheme. In the 2010 East Midlands Awards we were delighted to receive Bronze in Sustainable Tourism and Silver in the best in Self Catering Category. We are also winners of the Tastes of LIncolnshire Self catering Awards 2010 and have been 'Highly Commended' in many other years.

The gently rolling countryside is ideal for walking, cycling or bird watching and the area is well known for its angling, golf courses and big skies. Lincolnshire played an important part in the 2nd World War and there are many memorials and museums in the locality. Antique hunting, county shows, airshows and trips to the coast are all ideas for an interesting visit.

Woodhall Spa

The Edwardian town of Woodhall Spa with its shops, tearooms, historic cinema and famous golf course is only a few miles away, and the historic city of Lincoln with its cathedral, castle, museums, shops and restaurants is only 20 minutes away. The Lincolnshire coast is also within easy reach (about 1 hour).

“Utterly charming, perfect for a romantic break.”

Reviewed 18 Jan 2013

We had a warm welcome from Sherry and were taken up to the hayloft. It had real character. Sherry and her husband have put so much thought and attention into the furnishings and accessories, it positively oozes charm. We loved the bathroom and the fridge that looked like an old wooden ice chest. The welcome pack of food was excellent, (fresh veg, sausages, cereals, milk, butter, jams and cookies.) There was enough for us to use for 3 of our 4 nights evening meals without needing to buy much else. We only used the wood burner once as, though cold out, the central heating kept it more than cozy enough. The burner is very efficient, we used just 3 small logs for the whole evening and ended up opening the door and windows as it actually got too warm for us. For a romantic break I don't think we could have made a better choice. I would be very happy to book again another year.
