The Cotswolds region
Burycroft is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds, only 60 miles from central London (about 1.5 hours drive) and yet feels very much in the country. It's easy to find, follow the M40 to Oxford, then the ring-road around the town and continue west along the A40. We are just 5 mins. from the Witney exit. Once here the charm of an authentic Cotswold farmhouse awaits you, in the large roomy house with a large south-facing garden with fields beyond. The market town of Witney is 5 mins down the road which is well placed for shopping, restaurants, cinema and leisure centre.
The spires of Oxford are 13 miles away, Blenheim Palace and Woodstock 8 miles. Going west further into the Cotswolds you will find lots of tourist attractions: Minster Lovell, Burford (with Cotswold Wildlife Park nearby), Stow-in-the-Wold (Cotswold Farm Park nearby), Lechlade (Thames River setting), Cheltenham and much, much more. There are plenty of country walks straight from the farm and it's easy to include a friendly pub along the way, the nearest one is less than 1 mile away. Many of these have first-class restaurants - indeed early in 2014, British Prime Minister David Cameron took the French President Hollande for lunch at The Swan at Swinbrook - only 5 miles away!
Other Activities: Punting - rent a punt at Folly Bridge or Cherwell Boathouse in Oxford or try an electric punt at Newbridge. Visit Wychwood brewery in Witney.
If you bring your bicycles, the country roads around are gorgeous - just keep a sharp eye out for horses and cars.
The Cotswolds are one of the outstanding areas in the south and west of England - offering as familiar a picture of rural England as it is possible to get: rolling hills, pretty stream and rivers, towns and villages of stone-built houses with village greens and fields full of sheep, cattle and horses.
There are many walks along unspoilt footpaths and bridleways through fields and woods out of the picture-book.
Witney itself is an ancient wool town with many beautiful old buildings and a gorgeous green in front of its spired church in the middle of the town. Free parking in the town has enabled it to retain a vibrant centre and the town is thriving, with shops for all tastes. The new developments in the town have been very tastefully carried out and in no way detract from the Cotswold stone core buildings - but boast a very comfortable cinema complex and restaurants.
If you're keen on bargain hunting, Bicester Village, 16 miles away, is one of the foremost "Outlet Centres" in the country, a popular destination for tourists from all over the World (we often run into Japanese groups up from London for the day to snatch a bargain!).
