Shottle is a small hamlet located in lovely rolling countryside, on the southern borders of the Peak District National Park. Nearby Wirksworth is a small, charming market town on the edge of the White Peak, and is full of character, with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient "jitties" and courtyards, and the National Stone Centre, as well as the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there is good walking all around. Well Dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival. The annual Arts festival attracts international performers of every kind. Beautiful Chatsworth House, Shottle Hall and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath with its spectacular cable car, the newly restored Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver's Kingdom. The Derbyshire region
Sat nav a must to find us first visit, very rural with many footpaths and the pubs are walking distance!! The market town of Wirksworth and Carsington water with its sailing club and shops nearby.(advise pre-booking of water sports at peak times)
Wirksworth is a busy town from which you only have to take a few steps through one of the many ginnels to escape to the tranquil church walk. Local produce is sold at the saturday market (first sat every month), cafes, La Mistral retaurant, antiques, bakers, brewers, butchers, etc, all to be found. Wirksworth Arts festival at the end of the summer is a must.

"The most perfect retreat for a couple"
The pictures on the sites don't do this place any justice. It is so perfectly decorated, designed and furnished. I almost didn't make it to spout barn due to extreme weather conditions. When I phoned the owner she was extremely helpful and even offered for someone to pick me up in a 4x4. We only went out one day due to being snowed in yet still had the most perfect break. Perfect size and location. We will definitely be going back.
