Location description from owner
The England region
The accomodation is set in the Kennet Valley, to the West of Marlborough and is in an excellent position for visiting Avebury,Stonehenge, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and all the related historical landmarks associated with the area. Also, there is walking on the Marlborough Downs which link via the Valley of the Stones to the Ridgeway and beyond. Savernake Forest and West Woods are within three miles and in the Summer a lot of guests enjoy the mystery of the abundant Crop Circles, very often right on the doorstep!
Avebury is a 5 minute drive OR you can cycle or walk here through the farm and along the Ridgeway or along other footpaths. In the 1930s, the pretty village of Avebury, partially encompassed by the stone circle of this World Heritage site, was witness to the excavations of archaeologist Alexander Keiller. The fascinating finds from his excavations are on display in the 17th-century threshing barn and stables galleries of the Alexander Keiller Museum, where interactive displays and activities for children bring the landscape to life.
. Walk to the Bronze Age burial mounds at Windmill Hill.
• Visit the Lansdowne Monument and Iron Age earthwork of Oldbury.
• Discover Avebury's buried past secrets in the museum.
Marlborough is a small market town set in the heart of the Kennet Valley in East Wiltshire. The town itself is noted for its wide High Street and architectural splendour, dating in parts back to the 15th Century, and for the famous Merlins Mound in the grounds of Marlborough College. There are many places in the town and surrounding villages to eat and drink, the High Street enjoying a 'Cafe Culture' particularly during the Marlborough Jazz Festival and during the Summer School at Marlborough College. Marlborough also has a wide variety of shops and markets twice a week.

“Great house in super relaxing location.”
Access was very easy. The converted barn was very open and made for a friendly atmosphere. The standard of cleanliness was high and the cottage was very well equipped with washing machine, dryer etc and warm dry spaces, useful for days of bad weather. The underfloor heating and double glazing was so effective that in terrible weather it was enjoyable to sit inside and watch outside. Deer visited the garden. A great place.
So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Please feel free to book again! Thank you for your review.
“Great location, beautiful cottage”
Our Easter weekend at Curlew Cottage was exactly what we were hoping for. The location is stunning and being able to set off for walks without needing the car made it so relaxing. We loved the stunning views and the spacious living area was perfect for our group of 3 family couples. It felt like a real country weekend away. We loved the open plan design and the upstairs walkway to the bedrooms. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and we felt very much at home. The underfloor heating made the cottage very cosy and welcoming (especially as the weather was extreme at times). We took some games but didn't need to as the cottage has a good selection. We loved it and would happily do it again.
Thank you for your review. So glad you enjoyed your stay, especially at Storm Katie decided to join us all! Best wishes, Madeleine
We booked this barn as a 'last minute' get away and it's probably one of the nicest places we have ever stayed in England! We are frequent travellers and enjoy time away with our three young children (with number 4 due in a few months time). This barn is very comfortable, well thought through with many little extras that make for that special holiday. All of the bedrooms are of a good size with lovely, far reaching views of farm land. The beds are comfortable with high quality linen-plenty of comfy pillows and lots of fluffy towels too. The wi-fi connection is great and kept the children happy on their Kindles. The kitchen area is beautiful with superior fittings and a separate utility room with everything required. The accommodation offers a touch of luxury with underfloor heating and a stunning glass balcony leading to the upper bedroom areas. We didn't know much about Wiltshire prior to this holiday but found the advice given by the owners very helpful. Avebury Manor is a must and Bowood House was a real hit with the children (thanks Maddy!). The local area is rich in history with a wealth of activities to suit everyone. Marlborough ( a five minute drive away) is a beautiful town with excellent shops and eateries (we found child-friendly too). I would definitely recommend this accommodation and would have no hesitation in re-booking again. Thank you.
Thank you for your review. We are delighted you had such an enjoyable time!
“Fabulous cottage, great area, friendly and helpful landlord”
We stayed in the cottage for 2 weeks and we were very impressed at the quality of the accomodation it afforded. Wonderful crisp linens, snuggly beds and everything you need to make your stay memorable. Maddy and Edward were really helpful and friendly and responded very quickly to our queries and requests. We spent our time exploring the area, walking in the fields and just generally chilling when we didn't have to be in London. If we ever have to stay in Wiltshire again, Curlew Cottage will be first on the list.
Thank you for your lovely review. It was great to meet you both, and we are delighted to hear you had such an enjoyable time.
