We also have a folder where we ask visitors to list their favourite pubs, walks, shops, villages and anything else they care to mention. This really is a 'tell it how it is' guide.

You may wish to plan your visit to coincide with one or more of our village events, Pancake Races, Wakes Week, Secret Gardens, Winster Guisers or Quiz Nights - take a look at the Winster Village Website for details.

Further details

Sunnyspot is a no smoking cottage, and we regret we cannot accept pets because of the livestock in the adjacent field.

The cottage has an open staircase, and three stone steps leading up to the garden at the back, so we suggest children should be supervised at all times. PLEASE NOTE - WE DO NOT ACCEPT CHILDREN OF FIVE AND UNDER.

We ask guests to try to arrive from 2.30pm onwards on the first day and to try to vacate the cottage by 10.30am on the last day, this allows time for thorough cleaning of the cottage.

For what our guests thought, please look at our fabulous reviews on TripAdvisor further down this page - we are really thrilled that they have enjoyed the cottage so much, and even though it's our first year, we already have repeat bookings.

The Peak District National Park region

Winster is a former lead mining village close to many superb attractions. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall are all within easy reach. For the children, The Height of Abraham and Alton Towers are a drive away, and there are so many fabulous walks, trails, villages, pubs and other places of interest to visit.

Winster

For a small village, Winster has a lot going on. Shrove Tuesday sees the closing of Main Street for the Pancake Races. The Street is closed again for Carnival Day which is the last day of Wakes Week - a week long festival full of events including quizes, hill race, pet shows, and all the events you would expect from a tradtional village. Carnival Day starts with a fancy dress parade and also features the famous Winster Morris Dancers.

A couple of weeks later is our Secret Gardens. A hugely popular weekend with hundreds of visitors enjoying many open gardens, and sampling cream teas, Pimms and homemade ice creams.

“Great base for our holiday!”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2014

Sunnyspot is a fantastic cottage, centrally located in beautiful Winster. We were no more than 30 - 40 mins from all activities throughout our stay. Coming back each day to Sunnyspot made the break more relaxing and memorable. A great cottage!

Thank you for your kind words - you can see why we moved here. Come back soon, there's so much more to see, or simply stay in and relax.

“An idyllc, gorgeous & characterful cottage that eminates peace & tranquility.”

Superb cottage with all facilities of high standard. Wonderful peaceful & private location within the village, ideal if you need to unwind. Also well situated to get to all areas of the Peaks. The owners, Esther & John, are respectful of your privacy but also very friendly & welcoming. Can't recommend it highly enough. We will be back.

Thanks very much - come back soon, there's lots more to see!

“Delightful”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in Sunnyspot. The cottage has a delightful character and helped in no small part to make for a very relaxing holiday. The garden provides a further extension to the lovely character where we could watch the swifts as they swooped around overhead. We hope to come back again so that we can explore more of the delights the Peak District has to offer.

Many thanks for the review Andy - as you know there's much more to see in The Peak District, so we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

“wonderful stay”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2014

A perfect cottage for the 2 of us, everything you could want was there. A lovely village and a great location for touring the area, so much within an easy drive. The peak district on your doorstep. We were made to feel at home and welcome and would definitely recommend this cottage to anybody, thank you Esther and John

Thanks for the review, good to know we seem to be getting it right.

“Fantastic Holiday. Great cottage. We loved it!”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2013

We had a fantastic holiday. Lovely cottage which was very clean, comfortable, nicely decorated and well equipped. The sunny garden was private, peaceful and great for relaxing in. The owners live next door and were extremely friendly and helpful. My daughter loved playing with their dog Mac and collecting eggs from the chickens in their field. Lovely village and a great location for exploring the Peak District. Best UK holiday ever. We definitely want to come back again. Highly recommended!

“Lovely cottage in the heart of beautiful Winster”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2013

Lovely cottage in the heart of Winster. Spotlessly clean the cottage had all the facilities to make our stay very comfortable. It also has beautiful gardens and is very quiet even though it was in the heart of the village. The owners were also very friendly and available for advice if required. Certainly would recommend it to anybody who requires a very clean and quiet base in the heart of the Peak District.

“A delightful Stay!”

Reviewed 29 Nov 2012

My partner and I have had several short breaks this year in various parts of the country including the Peak District. Both of us agreed that Sunnyspot was the best property we had stayed in. The cottage, which retains some charming features, is cosy and very clean. It is also in a quiet location with pleasant views, despite being in the heart of the delightful village of Winster. The cottage's owners were helpful, accommodating and always on hand if needed, but without being at all intrusive. I would readily recommend Sunnyspot to anyone who is looking for high standard accommodation at a reasonable price.

“Has everything you could wish for in a holiday cottage.”

Reviewed 26 Nov 2012

The help and assistance when required from the owners, who lived next door was excellent. The quality of the fittings and the contents of the cottage was superb, there was nothing we could fault and we loved the comfort and cosyness of our winter stay. Winster is a delightful village with a first class community shop and two excellent pubs. the surrounding countryside is wonderful and Winster is situated very conveniently for many of the Peak District attractions.

“Beautiful”

Reviewed 26 Nov 2012

The cottage is secluded, beautifully furnished with every small detail taken into account. The owners are lovely and extremely helpful. We have already booked our return visit for New Year and looking forward to it immensely. Winster is a lovely village and centrally based for exploring the Peaks.
