Very Good

“Descending into your own little world...”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2017

We really can only echo what others have said and how they felt when staying in this wonderful characteristically Devonshire cottage. We booked very last minute (Thanks Carol for picking up those emails!) and couldn't have asked for anything more! It has every thing you require for your stay so really you don't have to leave...why would you?! A fully functional kitchen allowing you to rustle up breakfast, lunch and dinner without hassle along with a very cosy lounge and wood burner allowing for a cosy night in front of the TV or with a book from varied collection on offer in the cottage. The bed is just something else, we wasted an entire day watching TV and admiring the view as the world steamed on by without a care in the world. A little added bonus was the private land to wonder around, knowing you'd bump into wildlife and not much else it meant that it was even more relaxing! The owners were fantastic, in my experience it's the hosts that make trips with private rentals and they set a very high benchmark for others to follow. Great conversation from the start and we felt very very welcome and not just another set of guests for the cottage filling up the calendar. So Carol & Gareth thank you for giving us the short break we envisaged! I can't wait for our next trip, this one I really don't want to tell anyone about!

Owner's reply: It was lovely to get to know you both. So pleased you enjoyed your short break. In this fast moving world it's important for us all to step off the merrygoround and take a moment to enjoy the natural world around us. Hope the sun shon for you when you got home and you managed to finish painting your shed. See you both soon. Thank you for your kind words.

“Slice of Devonshire heaven”

We stayed at owlacombe mill for a week in July. What a calm peaceful holiday it was, felt so relaxed at the end of the week shame to go home. Carol and Gareth were such pleasant helpful people who couldn't have made our stay any better .The cottage itself was so well equipped even down to flasks and picknic basket "well used during our stay ".Upon arrival were pleasantly suprised to find essentials "coffee tea milk bread and wonderful free range eggs alongside excellent Devon cream scones ".What a treat to wake up to the sounds of the countryside nature lovers paradise which just sums up owlacombe mill paradise found definitely be going back.

Owner's reply: Always a pleasure to have such lovely people to share our quiet corner of Devon. Thank you so much for leaving the cottage so tidy, we could hardly tell that anyone had stayed. We look forward to welcoming you both back very soon. C&G

“A Fabulous Weekend”

beautiful cottage, excellent welcome pack and Devon cream tea ready for us:-) Plus a bottle of wine! Exceptionally clean and tidy, lovely woodburner with all wood supplied. Made to feel very welcome, the owners even booked a table for us at the local pub. Gorgeous food and attentive service. Cottage is situated in beautiful surroundings, good for walking. Wifi reception is poor, but who needs it anyway! We intend to return again in the future.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review. Sorry about the poor wifi sadly the joys of rural living. Nice excuse to have a few days disconnected from the outside world! We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Next time you will have to stay longer.

“Fantastic rural get away”

The Old Granary at Owlacombe Mill is perfect to escape from everything. Carol and Gareth are the perfect hosts and have thought of everything to make your stay a home from home. Carol's scones are amazing, a real treat on arrival. The cottage is so cosy and homely with lots of little touches that you spot during your stay, fresh flowers on arrival were another lovely touch. As others have mentioned the local pub must be visited, the food and ale are lovely, really well located for walks and places of interest. Couldn't recommend this more for those who want home comforts and to get away from everything.

Owner's reply: I know we keep saying it but it is a pleasure for us to share our quiet corner of Devon with such lovely people. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Come back for a visit again soon, maybe when the pond is finished so that you can enjoy a refreshing dip!

“Lovely little cottage in a bucolic setting”

Lovely little cottage, and a great spot to get away from the hustle and bustle. Close to the local pub (The New Inn), which serves very good food in addition to a choice of 9 different types of cider (obligatory for a stay in Devon!)

“It doesn't get any better than this”

The Old Granary is the most perfect bolt hole. The photos on the website don’t lie – the cottage and gardens really are lovely. Roborough is an ideal base to explore the beautiful Devon countryside and coastline, but when the weather closes in you don’t really need an excuse to light the woodburner and just enjoy the home comforts in the cottage. Carol and Gareth –Thank you so much. We can’t wait to come back.

Owner's reply: We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We will keep the log store topped up for your return visit. Can't beat a snuggle by the fire any time!

“Beautifully relaxed weekend!!!”

Beautiful cottage and setting!!! Gareth and Carol are excellent hosts could not do enough for you from baking delicious scones and jam on arrival to lending DVDs and giving paracetamol as no local shop in village. If you want tranquility and relaxing weekend this is definitely the place to go! Will be visiting again soon.

Owner's reply: We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your romantic Valentine weekend and the cottage surpassed your expectations.

“A magic place to return again and again and ...”

First of all a big "Thank you!" to Carol and Gareth! You have been extraordinary hosts and we would love to come back to Owlacombe Mill as soon as possible. We loved the warm welcome, the homemade scones and marmelade and enjoyed cream tea in the beautiful front garden and barbecues in the back garden (which is directly accessible from th bedroom balcony). Everything was so well prepared and equipped that we have been able to focus on enjoying our holidays instead of having to organize things. In fact, The Old Granary at Owlacombe Mill has been furnished in a way that you immediately feel at home: A well equipped kitchen with "real stuff" not just decoration, i. e. kitchen utensils and table ware of quality and of one style instead of the wild potpourri of styles that you usually find in cottages, a beautiful and cozy living room with wood stove, books and DVD TV set, a bright and friendly bedroom with balcony and a splendid view and a lovely bathroom with a spaciuos shower. All in all, this place has everything one's heart could desire! Furthermore you find a nice Pub in walking distance with great food and a fine choice of local ales. If you are looking for a quite and peaceful time for recreation and relaxation, you should give this place in the heart of the breathtaking Devon nature a try! We have been both lucky and happy to find such a magic place!!!

Owner's reply: Thank you for the glowing review! We aim to provide our guests with all they might need for a relaxing holiday in peaceful surroundings. The'home from home' we would enjoy staying in. Look forward to you both returning very soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Owlacombe Mill. The Granary was cosy, very complete and the garden beautiful. Gareth and Carol are perfect hosts and warm people. My husband just loved Carol's scones.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words. I will have to compile a recipe for my scones and send you a copy. Its always a pleasure to share our home with such lovely guests. Look forward to your return visit.

“Excellent accommodation-Peaceful location”

Reviewed 16 Jun 2013

Hosts Gareth and Carole were very welcoming and helpful on arrival, as was the welcome pack which included a cream tea. Location in valley idyllic, next to a bubbling brook. Standard of accommodation extremely high, well thought out use of space. Upstairs balcony and private garden of the Granary has stunning views of surrounding fields. Both areas are wonderful sun traps, and excellent places for the well deserved glass of wine after a days walking or cycling in the pretty Devon countryside that surround the Mill. Highly recommend the short walk up hill to the New Inn, where the food and company was excellent. All in all the Granary is a fantastic place to stay, already booked a return visit.

Owner's reply: Thank you both for your lovely review. Very glad you enjoyed your stay. You are quite right the pub serve fantastic food. Well deserved after your cycling and walking excursions. See you both very soon.
