Description

Built 143 years ago, Melmore Stables offered stabling for carriage horses belonging to the country house next door. It was converted into a dwelling house in the late 1980s and has recently been updated with new decorations, kitchen fittings, shower room fittings and carpets.

Sleeping a couple in its bedroom with en-suite shower room, it also accepts two further guests in a sofa bed in the living room. TV/DVD players are provided in the kitchen and living room, the latter with Sky Q. WiFi i included at no charge, as are towels and linen.

The accommodation is on the the ground floor and comprises double bedroom, kitchen, living room and two dining areas. \the owner lives in a first floor flat but will not disturb you during your stay.

Off street parking is available either at the front or rear of Melmore Stables. The rear driveway/terrace has a picnic set with parasol and a barbeque.

Getting around

A car isn't essential as the rail and bus communications to and from Melmore Stables are excellent. However, a car is recommended as Windermere is only ten miles or so from the property while Kendal is around 2 miles away. Guests can head North to explore the craggy higher ground, East to visit the Yorkshire Dales, West to the coast and South to access bigger places including Lancaster and Preston.

Interaction with guest

David, the owner, occupies a flat above the living room, at the far end of the building from the main ground floor bedroom. The flat has a separate external door and the door at the top of the stairs is kept locked. David won't disturb guests and will not enter the premises unannounced. However, he remains on hand should any problem arise. His e-mail address, mobile and landline numbers are provided so guests may e-mail, text or call with any quiries or requests for assistance.

We got lucky, the weather was fantastic. This cottage was the perfect place to explore Windermere and to test tired feet. Some fantastic pubs within a easy mile walk and Kendal is within an easy drive for shopping.
