Location description from owner

The England region

The English Lake District is one of the most picturesque areas in the UK. Windermere is a busy little town at the end of a short single track railway line, which connects to Virgin West coast main line (London Euston - Oxenholme 3 hours). It boasts an 18 hole golf course, fabulous walks and views from the surrounding fells, as well as relaxing lake cruises on Windermere itself, the largest of the lakes. Whatever the weather is there always something for everyone.

Windermere

Dove Cottage Wordsworth's home during most of his creative period and the Wordsworth Museum are close by and whist in Grasmere why not visit the famous Gingerbread shop. Grizedale Forrest has walks and mountain bike trails to suit all levels plus an amazing 'GoApe' activity complex. Aquarium of the Lakes lies only a couple of miles further around the shores of Winderemere, Beatrix Potter World is in Bowness and Hill Top Farm where she created many of her children's stories is in nearby Hawkeshead. You can explore the views of Windermere from the lake itself with Lake Cruises, between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. Holker Hall & Gardens, a handsome neo-Elizabethan mansion , also home to Lakeland Motor Museum are only a short distance and offer magnificent views over Morecambe Bay. Other attractions include Leven Hall & Gardens, Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway, South Lakes Wild Animal Park and Muncaster Castle to name just a few.

“Very comfortable, but not enough ventilation”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2013

The Undercroft is extremely comfortable, bright, clean and modern, only downside was the only window that opened was small one in the kitchen, neither of the bedroom windows opened at all, the only thing which stopped us giving excellent rating was the poor ventilation

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to review the cottage. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay, really sorry that you were unable to open the bedroom windows, not sure why as they both do open, it's just a shame we hadn't know you had a problem during your stay as we could have given you help to sort it there and then. Appreciate your feedback, many thanks.

“Exactly what we were looking for - fantastic living space”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2012

This property is even better than it appeared in the photos, as the striking conversion is difficult to capture on camera. After the minor challenges associated with finding it in the dark, (and getting the car through the narrow driveway!) we were delighted to arrive into a warm, welcoming and remarkably spacious flat. The downstairs bedrooms offer privacy with a bathroom each at a discreet distance from each other, and the upstairs living area/kitchen is open plan which means plenty of opportunity for socialising on the comfy sofas or around the dining table. As two couples, this place suited us down to the ground as a base for a weekend of good walks and good food. The welcome pack was a lovely touch too. Hope we can return soon!

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your kind comments. They are very much appreciated, as I have said before we try very hard to ensure that all is as you would expect and more if we can, so delighted that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back again very soon.

“A stunning and well appointed property in a great location.”

We booked The Undercroft very last minute for a wedding in the Lakes having been let down by a nearby hotel. The booking was straightforward and the owners were very accommodating taking into account the 3 days between booking and stay. The property exceeded our expectations from the photos, the bathrooms were modern and clean and the property contained everything you could ever imagine needing away from home. The complimentary arrival goodies were a big hit particularly with our three children as was the upside down layout of the property. Easy walk to Windermere and 5 mins from Bowerness. Properties managed to these standards deserve to do well!

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your feedback. It is much appreciated. Glad we were able to help with such good quality property at the very last minute. We try our best to make both the reservation process and the cottages themselves as good an experience as we possibly can.

“Beautiful house in lovely setting”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2012

Stayed at Undercroft for 4 nights at Easter with our 3 boys, age 3, 5 and 12. The house has the wow factor and was spotlessly clean. The bedrooms and bathroom are downstairs and the open plan living accommodation is upstairs. The owner made up the sofa bed in the second bedroom for our youngest son so all the boys were in the one room but it was still very spacious. There was a nice welcome pack with chocolates, wine and biscuits which was appreciated. The kitchen was well equipped with all mod cons. As the upstairs is open plan it would be a good idea to bring a stair gate if there is a very small child who is crawling or toddling (there may be one in the house but as we didn't need it we didn't look). The house is very close to local shops, bars and restaurants and is well placed for exploring the lake district. There was one small issue during our stay that couldn't have been predicted and on contacting the owner it was dealt with and sorted immediately. We would definitely stay at the undercroft again and would highly recommend it.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your feedback and your positive comments are very much appreciated. We try very hard to ensure that all of guests have an enjoyable stay and that the property is presented to the highest standard. If anything unexpected does occur, as Paula has mentioned, we do everything in our power to ensure that it is dealt with swiftly, professionally and to guests satisfaction. We hope that you will stay with is again very soon.
