Very Good

“Lovely cottage”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2017

Very comfortable in ideal location for visiting Stratford. It's in a peaceful setting in a nice quiet village, and just yards from the amazing Mary Arden's farm, which is well worth a visit. The cottage is very well appointed, strong comfy furniture, everything you need is provided. Friendly owers. Train service to Stratford (8 minutes) too.

Owner's reply: Thanks Tony and Wendy it was a pleasure meeting you and very pleased you enjoyed your stay

“Second stay just as special as the first! A real treasure.”

After a short stay at The Cider House in April 2013, we booked The Cider House for two weeks in October 2014 as a base from which to explore the countryside as well as a two-day trip to Liverpool. The cottage was just as perfect as we had remembered, and owners Lee and Craig just as gracious and welcoming. The cottage is perfect for one or two persons, and guests are given a great deal of privacy without owners hovering overhead. Yet Lee and Craig are available if needed for questions about the area or the property itself and the cottage contains lots of information about popular destinations and places to explore. It was clean as a whistle, well-equipped and cozy. The Wilmcote train station is an easy 1/2 mile walk from the cottage. We had no difficulty making our way to/from The Cider House and Gatwick Airport by underground and train, less than three hours from London. The local Mary Arden restaurant was so fantastic at the time of our visit, that we ate there the last three evenings. The nearby Wilmcote Stores carries varies sundry items as well as fresh produce, meat, bakery items, wine and beer, etc. Lots to see in this area, with great walking paths for those seeking some exercise and fresh air. We plan to return in a year or so for a month 's stay. Just a delight.

“Charming, Spotless, and Perfect for a Visit to this Area”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2013

Our entire transaction with Craig and Lee, Owners/Operators, from booking through the entire stay exceeded our expectations. The house is perfect for one or two people, is tastefully appointed and yet comfy, spotless, and in a great central location. A welcome package containing locally baked bread, milk, chocolates and jam was most appreciated. A very thorough manual covering the property's features and the local sites is provided, and the owners were accessible if needed (which they weren't, but we did so enjoy walking with them both). Persons over 6' tall may find the upstairs ensuite a little cramped, but the charm makes up for that.

“A perfect retreat”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2013

The Cider House is an absolutely perfect retreat, in an idyllic village. The house is spotless, with all the amenities and more, to provide a relaxing break. We loved everything about it from the clean smell as you open the door, the ‘welcome’ basket of goodies and milk in the fridge to the tranquil, coordinated décor and amazingly comfortable bed. The heating throughout is just right, no need to bring thermals. In fact, no need to bring much as everything is provided; hangers, hairdryer, umbrella, iron, bottle opener, illuminated make-up mirror, jewellery stand, fluffy towels…everything! Stratford is only eight minutes’ drive away or an hour’s stroll along the canal. The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust houses are well worth a visit, especially as Mary Arden’s Farm is just two minutes’ walk from The Cider House. There is a pub nearby but we found nothing could beat curling up in the evening on the lovely sofa with a glass of cider to watch a film from the vast library provided. Of course, a visit to the fantastic RSC is also essential, whether you are a lover of Shakespeare or not, it is an experience not to be missed. A huge Thank You to Craig and Lee for making our holiday truly amazing.

If you are looking for a relaxing break in a beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet place, but still close to all popular places to visit then is the place! I cannot say one bad word about it. Myself, my husband and our baby stayed here for 4 nights and we didnt want to leave! Everything you could possibly want is at the cottage! They have thought of everything and everything is finished to high quality. Lee and Craig who own the property are there if you need anything but are not intrusive at all, just very kind and welcoming. The sofa was so comfy and the bed was very comfy too and all appliances are easy to use. There is a lovely garden to watch the birds feed, sky tv, sky sports, bluray, a very large selection of dvds, aircon, dishwasher, washing machine and so much more! We visited many places, all were lovely, warick, stratford, broadway, lemington spa, charlecote park and boughton on the water. We didnt have to travel far to any of them. The furthest was boughton on the water but we went there after broadway as its only 20mins from there. I would recommend any of these places! We have already thought about our next visit and I keep telling everyone about it! Its a wonderful place and a lot of care and attention has gone into it. I am so glad I fell upon this place! Maybe my love of cider attracted me to the cottage ;-)

“I went with a dodgy back and stress and returned home cured!”

This well equipped and sparklingly clean cosy cottage does not come with an osteopath, but it does have the next best thing: A memory foam mattress! After each day's sightseeing it was wonderful to come back to this beautiful cottage in a quiet location and have a good night's sleep. We arrived to find a welcome pack which was extremely generous and thoughtful; with not only tea, coffee and breakfast cereal, but a gift box of 4 bottles of cider too and a pint of milk in the 'fridge! There is secure parking adjacent to the cottage and safety within it has clearly been observed with fitted smoke alarm and carbon monoxide monitor. I should add that there is no hint of danger, either from criminal activity or from domestic cause, but the safety measures in place do give added peace of mind. Wilmcote is well located for all the major sightseeing spots, with Mary Arden's Farm a very short walk away, and the local bus takes you right into Stratford, or you can catch the train at the nearby station. Do check on times of public transport though, as you can end up waiting an hour or so if you miss one. The owners live in the adjacent property and are extremely helpful and friendly, without being intrusive and if it does stop raining this summer you can sit out in the evenings admiring their well kept garden, which attracts a variety of birds and of course some squirrels. One small area for attention: The sloping roof in the upstairs shower room does mean you have to watch your head if you're at the wash basin which is located partly under the slope. Not too bad if you're under 5ft.4inches, but requires a slight lean forward over the basin if you're taller and cleaning your teeth! However, the power shower more than compensates and the air con proved invaluable as we were fortunate to stay during one of the hotter weeks in May and the upstairs bedroom was efficiently cooled during the warmer nights. Incidentally, once you've 'downed' the cider, there's a pub just along the road and a general store a few paces on from that, so if you need a pint of beer or a pint of milk you don't have far to walk - great if you're tired after a full day drinking in the delights of Stratford. And if you do have the energy to rustle up your own meal in the evening, the well equipped kitchen provides all you're likely to need in the way of pots, utensils and crockery. We had a lovely week's stay and would recommend "The Cider House" to anyone wanting to enjoy an interesting and beautiful part of England from a relaxing and beautiful location.

“The perfect home-from-home”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2012

I stayed at the Cider House for three months, from January to March 2012, while spending time at the University of Warwick as a visiting research student. From the moment I arrived, I felt immediately at home. The cottage is beautifully designed with a wonderful feeling of space and light so that, although I was at home and working there most of the time, I never felt cramped or house-bound. It was the perfect place to work, with lovely walks along the canal and the surrounding hills literally just outside the front door. And, when I needed time away from the computer, lots to explore further afield. The train station at Wilmcote also meant that days I needed to visit London or Oxford I was able to leave the car at home. The owners, Craig and Lee, have thought of everything: the kitchen is fully equipped, exceptionally clean (as is the rest of the house), and a delight to cook in; there is an extensive blue-ray and DVD collection, Sky TV, with brand new LED screens in the lounge and bedrooms; the Wifi connection was always quick and reliable, with none of the frustrations I have experienced at other properties promising internet access (such a relief). The bed is huge and very comfortable and the area is so peaceful that I slept better during my stay at the Cider House than I have done for years. And the birds at the feeder outside the kitchen window provide endless entertainment - Craig and Lee have even thought to provide binoculars for the keen, or novice birdwatcher. But just as important as the area and the house, Craig and Lee have managed to strike the perfect balance between allowing visitors to enjoy their privacy as well as the benefits of a neighbourly chat. Even before I arrived, they went out of their way to make be feel comfortable and at home. I was worried about driving through snow and over icy roads to the University - Craig and Lee always made sure I knew which roads to avoid in bad weather. They recommended places to eat, made sure that I was warm enough, and suggested places to walk and visit nearby. By the time I left, I felt that I had not only discovered an area and home-from-home to which I expect to return, but that I had also made two new friends. I highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the midlands - either for a weekend or for a longer visit. I cannot imagine finding a better place to stay.

“Excellent holiday stay!”

Everything about the Cider House was lovely! From comfortable furnishings to well-equipped kitchen to top-quality media (tv, wifi) to gas fire log, to well-come basket with wine and goodies, all the amenities were provided to make us feel pampered and welcome. We enjoyed the friendly people in the village of Wilmcote, the local shop and pubs, walking the public trails and the canal path to Stratford-on-Avon, and the theaters in Stratford. Thanks to the inn-keepers, Craig and Lee, for a wonderful holiday!
