Description

Visit Dartmoor and stay with us in "The Shippon" - a charming converted granite barn with spacious accommodation on two floors. A large, oak floored and open plan sitting room and dining area leads to an attractive, modern kitchen on the ground floor. A wood-burning stove with additional modern electric heaters provide warmth. On the first floor there is a large double or twin bedroom with extremely comfy bed(s) and Egyptian cotton sheets together with an en-suite bathroom with a full size bath, shower and WC.

Nestled in the famous village of Widecombe in the Moor on a working, family farm, the Shippon provides a fantastic getaway, with access to some of the best walking, horse riding and other country pursuits on your doorstep. A short stroll down a quiet country lane leads you to Widecombe Village with two pubs, a post office, gift shops and the "Cathedral of the Moor". A short drive will take you to bustling moorland towns with a host of tasty tipples, delicious delicacies, designers and makers, boutique stores, unique gifts and shiny treasures or venture a few more miles and reach the beautiful South Devon Coast.

The farm includes a riding centre and riding can be arranged to suit all abilities; either in advance of your stay or on arrival. Well behaved dogs (up to two) are welcome by arrangement at no extra cost.

Please note that the nightly price you see advertised is based on a 7 night stay. Generally a 5 night stay would cost 90% of a 7 night stay, 4 nights at 80%, 3 nights at 70% and 2 nights at 60%. But this maybe flexible so please do contact me for a quote.

We live less than 1 mile away and usually pop over to the farm at some point during the day. There is always a member of staff at the riding centre during working hours. I usually try to be there to welcome you on your arrival and show you around.

“Home from home”

We stayed at 'The Shippon' in October for a long weekend. It is a beautiful, well equipped and very cosy cottage. Very spacious too. Alona was very friendly and welcoming and even left us some nibbles and a bottle of wine to enjoy on our stay. The cottage is a 10 minute walk from a beautiful pub called 'The rugglestone inn' and a 15 minute walk from the heart of the pretty village 'Widecombe in the moor'. It is also a short drive to other great places to visit such as Haytor Rocks, Becky falls, postbridge and many more. It is in a perfect location to enjoy Dartmoor. The only thing that i feel would make the cottage even better is if it had a small garden attached to the cottage rather than it being over the road opposite. It would of been handy to have been able to let our dog out last thing at night and first thing in the morning from the back door rather than having to get coated/booted up to have to take her over the road to the garden. I wasn't aware that the private garden wasn't attached to the cottage when I booked. All in all though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We really loved staying here. The cottage is beautiful and rustic, with everything you could need for a comfortable, cosy, hassle free stay. Kitchen is well equipped, lovely bathroom, gorgeous comfy enormous bed, woodburner in the living room. The location is also very nice, Dartmoor in spring is so green, there is a clear spring nearby. The cottage is walking distance to a lovely pub - The Rugglestone Inn.
