Description from owner
Yonder Shippon is situated on a farm on Dartmoor in South Devon. Weekly lets are offered, or short breaks (a minimum of three nights) are available during the period mid-October through to mid-March.
It is a delightful cosy little cottage, recently converted from a stone barn known as a "shippon". A shippon is where cattle and sheep would once have been housed. It has been beautifully converted providing a living room downstairs with a sitting area and wood burner, dining area and kitchen. Spiral stairs lead to the mezzanine floor above with a double bed (or twin beds if preferred) and a shower room.
The detached cottage has its own courtyard and has fabulous panoramic views of the countryside including the moor. It is situated two miles south of the scenic village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor and is an ideal base from which to discover Dartmoor - its history, archaeology, flora and fauna, beautiful rivers, the local pubs, the nearby town of Ashburton and its antique shops, Princetown and its historic prison. Totnes and Chagford are within easy reach too. There is much to see and do on the doorstep.
The walking and riding are excellent and you would be perfectly situated with the Two Moors Way passing the end of the drive. Bring your dog, your horse, your canoe, your bicycle or your walking boots! Or you can curl up in front of the fire with a good book - the choice is yours!
Wifi is available at the cottage and if your mobile provider allows you will be able to use your mobile phone over the internet.
It is a working farm so there may be livestock and machinery movement.
Smoking is not permitted.
Dogs will be considered.

“wonderful spot and hosts. nice accommodation for a couple”
I would strongly recommend to my best friend with confidence that they would love it. If we ever go anywhere near there again we would love to stay there again.
What a fantastic place Yonder Shippon is! Myself and my Fiance stayed for a week and spent all our time getting lost in the National Park with our dog Izzy. The area is peaceful, relaxing and a perfect location if exploring is your thing (or just getting away from the hustle and bustle of your home town to relax.) There's a fantastic pub a mile down the road called Old Inn we stopped in a few times. I would 100% visit again in future
A wonderful place to spend time by the fire reading and reconnecting with nature. A stylish, warm, clean compact cottage perfect for 2 people and a great base to visit the local area! Situated on a friendly farm with gorgeous views.....I can’t recommend it enough!
“Style with substance in a bijou form!”
This is a thoughtfully presented holiday rental; it is a delightful conversion and a great deal of effort has gone into ensuring maximum comfort and ease. The setting is sublime and there is plenty to see and do in the neighbouring area, but the moors are really the star of the show. The owners were genuinely friendly and solicitous of our well being and their puppies were hugely engaging! We were there as summer turned to autumn and the woodburner was a welcome addition. We would definitely recommend this to others, it is a real gem.
“Beautiful corner of Dartmoor - we didn't want to go home !”
We absolutely loved our recent trip to Yonder Shippon. Stephen and Fiona are super hosts and we were made to feel extremely welcome throughout our stay. From a log burner lit ready for our arrival (which wasn't needed by the end of our week as we'd picked a superb week weather wise!), to thick fluffy towels, a large comfy bed with beautiful bedlinen, there was nothing else we needed in order to recharge our batteries for a few days. The farm is set in a beautiful location and we loved the visits from the dogs Archie and Bella who are great little characters. We don't know Dartmoor very well but we're determined to be back to explore further at a later date (hopefully not too far away). It's a really special place. We explored Hound Tor, cycled the Granite Way (gentler on the muscles than the nearby lanes unless you have legs of steel!!), walked to Widecombe, enjoyed great beer at the Rugglestone Inn, hibernated by the log burner for the afternoon when the weather was a complete write off and finally couldn't resist one last walk on the morning we left along the West Webburn river on the Two Moors Way which is magical.
Such a lovely little cottage, friendly owners and beautiful scenery. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
“Lovely Yonder Shippon”
Had a fabulous time in the small and cosy Yonder Shippon. Everything we needed was there. The roads to the cottage are quite narrow and very few passing places so be prepared for that. Hosts were fantastic. WiFi was excellent too. Would definitely go again.
“Yonder Shippon... perfection!”
Although our stay was short it was delightful! We received a warm welcome from Stephen and the puppies on the first day before settling in. The perfect size for two and with everything you need, I really can't fault it. The location is ideal for short trips to nearby beauty spots even if you want to set out on foot. Would love to come back, hopefully in the not too distant future!!
“Great, relaxing long weekend.”
Lovely little cottage, ideal for a couple wanting to get away for a few days. The owners were excellent, friendly and helpful. Great location for walking, cycling (if you don't mind steep hills) or visiting local attractions and villages. The local pub is a short walk away and serves great food and beer. Will definitely visit again there's loads still to see and do. A superb place to unwind.
“Mr & Mrs Thomas”
Could not fault this cosy cottage. Very clean and comfortable. Beautiful location and central access to the moors. Once we got our bearings we visited lots of places that were more or less on the doorstep. Good night's sleep due to gorgeously comfy massive bed! Both pubs in Widdecombe dished up tasty food and lots of it. Very enjoyable holiday.
