Description from owner

Description

Lovely 17th century stone cottage in the hamlet of Southford. The cottage stands between Stenbury Down and Niton down and several picturesque walks begin from the farm just behind the cottage.

The Undercliff, Woody Bay, Ventnor, Steephill Cove and St Lawrence are all within 10 minutes drive or 45 minutes walk for the more adventurous!

The Dairy has two double bedrooms. The first has a double bed, and the second has a flexible set up that can work either as two single beds, or a double. We have a modern fitted bathroom with bath (no shower), and a unique kitchen complete with English Rose and Dovedale 1950's units, and vintage dressers.

This cottage is also often a home to us, and is therefore well stocked with books, DVDs, videos and essentials in the kitchen.

We are keen collectors of vintage crockery and furniture. There is an original old radiogram in the living room alongside a pretty mid century sofa bed and an ercol sofa and chair. The front bedroom contains

Overall this gives the cottage a completely unique character.

We have recently restored the fireplace in the living room so you can cosy up to a log fire in the colder months.

Further details indoors

The courtyard contains a small table and four chairs.

In the summer the courtyard is full of flowers and if we're lucky with our crops we have some vegetables and herbs which you can help yourself to if you don't mind watering them!

There is no off road parking available but we always park in the layby on the opposite side of the road and have no problems

The England region

From the Isle of Wight Council website:

Steeped in history with 60 miles of stunning unspoilt scenery and a wealth of attractions, the Isle of Wight has something for everyone. From historic sites to natural delights, music festivals and major national events, it is a unique holiday destination.

Whitwell

Whitwell is a pretty village approximately 5km North West of Ventnor.

It is full of old stone and thatched cottages and its name comes from White Well; a place of pilgrimage during mediaeval times. The well can be found down a track opposite the church. The White Horse, our local pub, claims to be the oldest on the Island with some of its walls dating back to the 15th century.

Up the road in picturesque Godshill, the Michelin rated Taverners serves fantastic local food and for something special, the Michelin starred Hamborough Hotel in Ventnor is wonderful.

“We enjoyed the cottage and would return.”

Reviewed 3 Feb 2012

This was our third trip to the wonderful Isle of Wight. We enjoyed our weeks stay at the cottage and would recommend it. The cottage is like our own little holiday home, it's a bit like the owners have just moved out for a week whilst you stay, which is lovely. The owners were very layed back and were helpful. Thank you for the use of the cottage.

“Cosy haven with stylish retro twist”

Reviewed 2 Feb 2012

Dairy cottage is a charming, quirky and inviting home-from-home and makes the perfect base for an island jaunt. Each room is lovingly filled with character and interesting, stylish decor and artifacts from the kitsch to the classic, and the owners obviously take great pride in their cottage. A cool and comfortable cocoon that will delight you on sunny days with it's courtyard vegetable patches to forage, and also keep you snugly occupied when it's cold and rainy outside. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dairy Cottage to anybody of any generation who is looking for a homely grotto just a short drive away from the breathtaking nearby coastline. I stayed with friends and we plan a return visit!
