Our delightful, dog-friendly, centrally heated cottage nestles in a private courtyard in a charming, rural village with fabulous walks from the doorstep. It sleeps 3 people in one double and one single bedroom; both being well furnished. There is a white bathroom with shower over bath. The light, bright sitting room is tastefully furnished, with two sofas, living-flame gas fire and has French windows leading onto a small but beautiful, enclosed and south facing garden, which overlooks private parkland and has patio with furniture and flowerbeds. The fully fitted dining kitchen is equipped with gas hob and electric oven, fridge (with mini-freezer), washing machine, filtered water tap, microwave, toaster, slow-cooker and kettle. There is a porch which is useful for boots, buggy or golf clubs and a private parking space at the front door for one family car, plus additional visitor parking within the courtyard. There is an allocated parking/securing-point for 2 cycles at the front and a chain and rain cover can be provided (cycles left a owners' own risk). The cottage is directly on the Lancashire Cycle Trail but bikes may not be carried through/into the cottage. Well trained, adult dogs (one or two of min 18 months) are welcome downstairs in the property. Dog towels and bowls are provided (no dogs that would jump the 3.5 ft wall please and bring own crate if wishing to leave them unattended). You will be welcomed with fresh milk, tea, bread and butter. There is free wifi and satellite TV. Two bathrobes, barbecue, sun lounger, hairdryer, DVD player, DAB radio, iron and ironing board provided.

Barley Cottage snuggles where the dramatic Lake District National Park and the rolling Yorkshire Dales meet the Trough of Bowland, making it the ideal base for a touring/walking holiday, Exploring this idyllic area, you will be spoiled for choice. The village of Whittington, in the Lune Valley, is recorded in the Doomsday Book, The parish Church records go back to 1538. It is peaceful and picturesque, surrounded by glorious, unspoilt countryside with walks from the doorstep. Whittington is just two miles from Kirkby Lonsdale, a smart, historic market town (featured in BBC's 'Jamaica Inn'. To get there, enjoy the walk in by the River Lune. If you prefer not to walk or drive, there is a regular bus service. You will be delighted by the unique shops (don't miss the enchanted chocolate mines), dog-friendly cafes & restaurants, cobbled courtyards, Norman church and Georgian architecture. Here you can enjoy fine dining or a chip supper. Thursday is Market Day. Wander from here to the famous 'Ruskin's View', painted by a clutch of famous artists; Ruskin described this as one of the finest views in England. and don't miss the ever popular, 14th Century, 'Devil's Bridge' where tourists flock to take a plunge in the Lune. You can enjoy a burger or picnic in the park (parking is free of charge); look out for the 'Great stone of Fourstones', which is said to have burst from the Devil's purse strings as he ferried the masonry to build this bridge! Two miles in another direction takes you to 'Hutton Roof Crags, Nature Reserve', with its unique limestone pavement. The Yorkshire Dales is a mere 20 minute drive. We recommend a day exploring 'Ingleton Caves', and a journey on the famous 'Settle to Carlisle Railway'. For peace and quiet, visit the 'Howgills' - one of the forgotten walking areas of England, or the famous Ribblehead Viaduct. Also for walkers, the nearby 'Forest of Bowland' includes wild upland and cultivated valleys, or join the 'Lune Valley Ramble' from Whittington itself. Windermere and the Dramatic Lake District, with its host of attractions, is only 30 minutes' drive away. For a day at the coast visit Lancashire; Arnside and Silverdale are only 25 minutes' drive and Morecambe just 30 minutes. For shopping, there is a Booth's nearby and the bustling Lake District town of Kendal is a twenty minute drive. Alternatively, nearby Lancaster offers a good day out. There is a golf course, which opens to the public, at Casterton, 4 miles away. Great opportunities for cycling, fishing and horse-riding exist in the immediate area.
