“Fantastic house”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2019

We have just come back from a wonderful week in Whitby and ‘Heron Wood’. The house is fantastic, very spacious on three levels and accommodated 4 children and two adults perfectly. There is enough room in the house for everyone to chill out and not be on top of one another and also to be together at meal times or in the big living room. The house is clean, homely and so relaxing. The views from the balcony are of the tidal river Esk, and you never get bored of seeing the river change throughout the day or the various different wildlife. The view of the viaduct is also amazing and it is truly statuesque. When you look out of the bathroom ceiling window or bedroom, you can get a look up at how high it really is.... look at it at night with the stars and it can be eerie! Everything in the house is catered for and you don’t need to worry as it’s been thought of. The ducks from the river come up to the door and are really friendly, it’s lovely to see. The kids enjoyed crabbing at the river and as we had really hot weather, they were out most evenings and we could see them from our balcony which was right next to it. The area is beautiful, we walked along the viaduct cinder path a fair few times in to Whitby and back to avoid parking charges! We walked it no problem, even with out two year old. It takes around 20 mins to walk there. Whitby itself is a lovely town, be sure to visit the town on the other side of the bridge with the steps to the church and all the different shops. We visited Robin Hoods bay, Staithes and Scarborough which were all really good days out. ( a steep walk down to the beach in both Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay but worth it) Sandsend beach is a must visit if you have kids as it has a ‘pool’ which is water which has flowed from the river, but is good for kids and using inflatables such as dinghy’s etc. All in all a brilliant stay, we would definitely come back to the house again and Bridgett always appeared to be friendly answering messages or questions you may have effectively and with efficiency.

Owner's reply: Sounds like you had a great time. Thank you very much for the review. Look forward to you returning sometime in the future.

“Recommended for excellent facilities, wonderful scenery and a relaxing week!”

Set out over 3 floors includng all mod cons (Dishwasher, washing machine, 2 x TV's and Wi-fi) this place is ideal for a family holiday. All facilities are first class and the setting is wonderful. The view from the veranda is breathtaking and it is great to watch the steam trains from North Yorkshire Moors Railway pass by. Close by to a number of pleasant walks into the countryside or along the cinder track into Whitby you will never be short of things do and will be kept fit (If you fancy the exercise) Or ideal for a peaceful and relaxing break
