The Western Ireland region

This beautiful unspoilt part of Connemara is the ideal getaway location for those who want to unwind and forget about it all for a while. After staying here you will not want to go back to the city.
For those of you who like driving we are in the heart of the most beautiful scenery in the world. This area is truly unique as it is the only place in Europe that a blanket bog (peat) exists. The Irish hare ,red grouse, butterflies, dragonflies, spiders live in these blanket bogs which are 10,000 years old. It is also used as a form of heat , after it is cut and dried. It has an unusual relaxing smell when burning. Or why not let us do the driving for you in our 16 seater bus so you can enjoy the scenery even more.
The coastline of Mayo and Connemara is large and ever changing with the light that follows the contours of the mountains and valleys, only photos can describe the tranquility and beauty of this area.
If it's walking, cycling, adventure sports or golfing your after or maybe just relaxing with family and friends then give us a call to learn why Eaglewood Lodge is the best choice for you.

Westport

The Erriff river is only 100 metres away from the lodge and is a good salmon fishing river. Just a five minute drive is Moher lake where you can fish for brown trout. About an hour's walk from Eaglewoodlodge is Glenawough lake located high up in the hills in front of the lodge.
The bustling and adventure town of Westport is just 15km away and is one of the best towns in Ireland for entertainment, good food, leisure facilities and home to Matt Molloy's pub of the Chieftains. There is a music festival held in June and August and an arts festival in October.
Heading further south from Eaglewood lodge there is the village of Leenane on the Wild Atlantic Way renowned for the making of the film 'The Field'. It is located on the Killary Fjord the only Fjord in western Europe. Here you can fish for mackeral from the shore or why not take a trip on the Killary Cruiser to enjoy the wonderful scenery of the Fjord. Further on towards Clifden is Kylemore Abbey, a beautiful abbey dating back to 1860. The medieval village of Aughagower is only 8km away and is where St Patrick passed through on his way to Croagh Patrick. It has a tenth century round tower and an old graveyard and is a great place to start looking for long lost relatives from this area. Ballintuber Abbey is where the St Patrick walk starts and is 30min away.
Sea angling can also be arranged please enquire with owner. There are two adventure centres 8 miles away Killary Adventure centre and Delphi Adventure centre catering for all who want to use up some energy. You can go hillwalking, road and mountain biking from the lodge or just watch bird life and plants from the living room.
Set amonst surrounding mountains , sheep and cattle graze nearby . Croagh Patrick, Ireland's holy mountain is only a stones throw away. The mountain range in this area is truly remarkable and majestic as the colours change from hour to hour with the different light. There is a famine monument twenty minutes away in memory of those who died on their way to Delphi looking for food during the great famine of 1847.

“More than we could have ever asked for!”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2014

Eaglewood Lodge is a property where what you see online is actually surpassed when you arrive. When we drove up the driveway, we saw this beautiful American style log home and then gazed across to our view from the porch, the county Mayo mountain view strikes you as being surreal in its beauty. It only gets better from there. We arrived to find Michael Gavin, our wonderful host, had lit the fire and left a lovely basket of wine and cheese which we welcomed as we were very hungry. Michael has his property running like an efficient, environmentally friendly machine which respects the natural wonders all around it. I was pleased at his awareness of these issues and gladly took up the lessons on living such a way easily and without any inconvenience. My only regret is that I wish that we could have stayed longer. It is beyond a 10 out of 10 in every area! Thanks so much Michael!

“Hugely impressive lodge, with great facilities”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2014

5 friends and I stayed here on the June Bank Holiday weekend. We found Eaglewood lodge to be hugely impressive in terms of size, quality and facilities. We made the most of the BBQ and garden outside with the good weather, and on two occasions took a taxi into the town, which is about 10 miles away from the lodge, between a few people this wasn't expensive. The owner was very accommodating and made sure we were looked after for the whole weekend, Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their weekend and we would have no hesitation in returning again.

“Fantastic Relaxation”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2013

We went with our two adult sons and a teenager, and even then there was so much room that another couple and their teenager joined us for a couple of days. Typically, we use accommodation as just a place to lay our heads while we are busy out and about for the majority of the day. This time around, we would head out for a few hours mid-morning, grab some lunch but be back in the lodge for dinner (usually on the BBQ) and lay back and enjoy the surroundings with a cold beer. A really relaxed holiday, with a lot of quality family time that we didn't really want to end.

“A home away from home”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2013

We were a group of 12 who spent the weekend at Eaglewood Lodge, made up of 6 adults and 6 children. The house was fabulous and was set in a beautiful landscape. The children had so much space to play in and we had the lovely sitting room to relax and unwind in. The bedrooms were very well laid out and so comfortable. The owner arranged for a chef to cook our dinner in the house on the Saturday night which was a three course meal and was just gorgeous. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great but that didn't stop us from having plenty to do in nearby Westport and Castlebar. I would definitely recommend Eagelwood to groups or family and is suitable at any time of the year.

“It was the Perfect place at the perfect time!”

Reviewed 15 Jan 2013

We had a great week and we filled the house with 12 people! Space, beautiful views and at no time did you all feel that you were crowded in to a house! Great Kitchen for making meals! Music and games were played. SPACE for everyone! Kids upstairs adults enjoying a glass of wine by the fire....lovely location between Leenane and Westport. Bedrooms and beds so comfortable! Really enjoyed the week!

“Memorable weekend retreat in a breathtakingly beautiful location”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2012

Eaglewood lodge is a clean, spacious, warm, luxurious log cabin with big comfortable beds, modern clean bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. Views from every window provide a constant reminder of the majestic countryside that surrounds you. Eaglewood is the idea base for touring the breathtaking mountains and coastline in the immediate local. From Achill island around Claire bay to Westport, Croagh Patrick, secluded sandy beaches at the Old Head and Louiseburg, round through the mountain pass at Doo Lough to Killary Harbour are just some of the must see gems within a 30 radius of the lodge. We enjoyed every minute of our stay, it was truly memorable.

“Beautiful lodge in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2012

Even though the Irish weather did it's best to ruin our week, we had a great holiday in this beautifully appointed lodge. Everywhere you look, the scenery is amazing. All rooms are tastefully decorated and the view from the front room window is gorgeous even on a rainy day. Michael was helpful to us in every way. I would recommend Eaglewood as the perfect getaway for couples, families or for corporate outings (Delphi Adventure centre is only 19 km away). We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return at some point in the future.

“The real deal”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2012

We did the usual packing the car with everything from washing up liquid, towels, dishwasher tabs etc only to discover that we didn't need a thing. It was a pleasure to stay at Eaglewood Lodge. It did exactly as it said on the tin. My only regret was that the stay was much too short. The manager was "on call" 24 hours if needed. The Lodge is a little on the pricey side but i feel well worth it. It is a little isolated so a car is needed. Taxis are available for those who like a tipple. Had a great long weekend

“A luxurious haven in Co Mayo”

Reviewed 2 Jul 2011

We stayed for a week at Eaglewood Lodge in August 2010. It was a large family group which included my elderly parents, my husband and myself, 3 sons aged 15- 21 years and my daughter 12. My mother has not got good mobility and found that the downstairs bedroom and walk in bathroom was perfect for her. Only difficulty she encountered was that the bed was quite a tall bed and therefore she initially found it hard to get into. This was more than overcome by the comfort however. The teenagers stayed in the upstairs part of the house which has 2 large bedrooms which open out onto a large sitting room with TV. This was ideal as far they were concerned and they thoroughly enjoyed their space. The downstairs sitting room therefore could become a quiet area for reading and the adults. The house was very well provided with everything you could possibly need for your stay. It had luxury, comfort, tranquility, great views and more or less everything you would wish for within your own home. The area is secluded and quiet and is situated about 15 kms from Westport. This was ideal for us but if you like to be right in the centre of a town this house would not be for you. A car would be recommeded. Some lovely beaches are within reach by car, Old Head beach at Louisburgh, Keem and Keel beaches Achill etc. Croagh Patrick mountain is close by and there is loads of entertainment in Westport. I would heartily recommend this house for a stay and cannot wait to return. Michael the owner is also very attentive and will try to make your stay a very pleasant one. Eaglewood Lodge is truly a haven within Co Mayo.

“It was more than we expected”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2011

Make certain your shopping for groceries is complete, the drive is rather winding. The location is great. Westport just a few minutes away. Clifden is nearby, Newport, and Belmulett a scenic drive. We have been to Ireland numerous times and have stayed 5star and B and B's. This rate right up there. Michael Gavin, is a fine, helpful host! Fishing nearby and take along a kite, we had a great time. Also, the trip over the mountain to the East is quite nice and Croagh Patrick is visible to you on a clear day.
