Getting around

A car is recommended however car hire is cheap. There is a designated cycle lane from Westport town linking louisburgh and beyond and the views are amazing. There are plenty of local taxi's and we can arrange taxi's for your movements throughout the duration of your stay.

He is always on hand, will meet and greet you on arrival and point you in the right direction for anything you may need throughout your stay. Very Good

“Highly recommended!”

Ard na Mara was a great base for a holiday in Co Mayo / Connemara. We were a family of 7 staying for a week in August and our only complaint was the weather! John's home was spacious, clean and well equipped with everything we needed. We had a lovely view of Croagh Patrick mountain from the sun room and the children had plenty of space to play. Just a stroll from the bungalow to The Tavern which serves great food. Just a 5min drive to the left for Westport Harbour / Westport house and a short drive to the right to reach Bertra beach. Westport town centre is busy and can be difficult to park in and around but worth the effort! With so many scenic places to visit we will definitely be back - hopefully bringing the sun with us this time!

“Everyone loved this place”

We came to Ireland for a wedding in Westport so we wanted somewhere relatively near Westport it was only a short driver so we were happy. When we arrived at the house we were very surprised at how big the house is. It was spotless and had everything you would need. There was four children and four adults in our group so there was plenty of room for all of us. The children loved the garden and the adults enjoyed a few beers in the conservatory in the evening. Some other family members visited us and they all said they wished they would of stayed at the house. The views are amazing plus its a short walk to the sea and the pier its also a shorter walk to the pub. We would love to come again and will defiantly recommend this to anyone planning a holiday on the West coast of Ireland

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review. Please do not hesitate to contact us in the future. We'd love to welcome you again. John

Beautiful house with beautiful views. Sadly house could do with a little updating, first en suite bathroom in need of modernisation, & smelt very damp. House could also do with more plates, mugs, cutlery etc...

“Perfect house for wet weather!!”

We were there for a family get together ( for the senior members of the family)! and although the weather which was mostly chucking it down curtailed some of our expeditions we managed some local walks and great scenic drives, which were very close. We also spent a dry afternoon in Westport town and also the Quay area which was very impressive. There is a good restaurant in easy walking distance and the house itself was so comfortable and warm that we were happy to sit in comfort and talk and have the odd glass or two of vino!! The house was also exceptionally clean and very spacious, and very well equipped. The owner met us on arrival and showed us how everything worked and was very helpful.

Lovely house-spacious and well looked after. Fantastic pub/restaurant(The Tavern) within walking distance. Only stayed two nights but all six of us wish it had been closer to a week. Were met at the house by John and this went smoothly-he had even supplied us with some fresh milk and some teabags and sugar. This was much appreciated. Went to Matt Molloy's in Westport on the Saturday night-had a great time listening to live music. Would strongly recommend.

Owner's reply: Thanks Andrew, be glad to see you again anytime!

“Entertaining, but restul and scenic to.”

Both my Partner and I enjoyed our stay in Westport immensely, although only a week’s stay, there was plenty to see and do. The town centre is a quiet and picturesque by day and vibrant by night. Ard na Mara house itself is located at what seems like a stone’s throw from the foot of the wonder that is Croagh Patrick and has all the facilities you need to enjoy a break for couples or families. The house is comfortable, well furnished and very spacious. Great break away, great accommodation and lovely town.
