Description from owner

Description

We wish to offer people a place to stay which is both healthy relaxing and invigorating. The studio lodge is situated at 'The old Nuns retreat" at Omau on Cape Foulwind. The owners reside in the old house beside the lodge where they have lived for 28 years. The retreat lodge itself is comfortable and relaxing and has everything we believe you need to chill out and relax during your stay..

A short walk through our garden and out front you can wander down the cliff track to the beach accessing other beaches at low tide by walking through the caves. The seal colony is within walking distance with other small wild bays to explore. Certain spots are safe for swimming. Just ask.

Being a surfing and seafaring family throughout our lives my wife and I have always been involved around the sea in our work and our play. We can offer surfing guidance of the local breaks.

Fresh sea food abounds( kai moana)

There is a local pub within walking distance and a cafe/restaurant

We love sharing our place with visitors from different places and we wish your stay to be as fruitful or just relaxing as you want it to be.

Location description from owner

The South Island region

The West Coast is the most beautiful area in New Zealand , picturesque with great roads coastal drives with mountains close to the coast.

The west coast people are the most friendliest people in New Zealand and we wish you to enjoy your stay.

The region is very green with mountain rivers running down through the bush to the coast. The energy is lively with the sound of the oceans waves. yet also quiet and serene with warm misty atmospheric conditions at times with the sun piercing through.

The most isolated places in New Zealand are found on this coast with primal forests, deserted beaches and coves, limestone caves and glaciers and the Fjords further South.

Westport

The warmest in the South Island. Due to a unique warm current coming into the North West coastal area we have our own native palms growing in abundance here. With a subtropical climate there are many beautiful micro climates tucked away in the different coves and bays.
Wildlife abounds in the bush. Beautiful colourful native birds abound. Whales and Porpoise are frequently seen along the coastline.

Activities include jet boating through the Buller Gorge on the largest jetboat in NZ.
Horseriding.
Tours up into the local ranges to visit old quaint mining towns from a bygone era.
Caving tours and much more.

Every where you stop there is a photogenic opportunity. Our area is known by photographers all over the world for its light and the incredible landscapes
